Goat, a bush plane crafted from nodes, beams, triangles, fueled by my passion for flight and well, bush planes. This started from a plane I made in Simple Planes, it was a bush plane with some beefy suspension, it was good, then I searched for a plane in beamng, nothing really suited what I wanted. So I just decided to make a plane, yeah a whole plane, the only other mods I've made have been bumpers or simple active aero, nothing big. This has been a challenge, a lot of forums and wikis but I survived. Fun fact, this project almost died after after I started, I got freaked out by how much there was to do and learn, a comment made on a post reminded me of this, gave me a push to pick it back up, and I did, I made big progress. So I posted on a reddit and started a giant comment chain with the user u/RobARMMemez who was another source of motivation, plus (them being very into bush planes) gave a lot of insight into physics, engines, propellers, over all they helped a lot, so thank you. Anyways onto the details and future goals. Showcase video (bad quality I know, no idea how to record good video.) Development pictures - It's been a journey. A very early picture from when I just had the frame's jbeam done. Yada Yada time goes on, and I got the first wings done. These wings were genuinely awful, they had poor deformation, they twisted, they broke at high speeds. This twisting was caused from the aileron, which created adverse roll, it made roll performance really really bad. Then started on the landing gear and the beefy suspension (a important thing for me), they can take a hit. No picture but I completely remade the wings and ailerons, and I added the flaps. Plus I want to redo the rear suspension/steering system, it's very bare bones right now. Animated mesh/interior - I might not do this, or I might do this after I release it, this isn't that important to me as I don't own vr and it doesn't affect flight characteristics. Propulsion - I want to tune the engine a bit more, maybe look into new sounds. On top of this I want to either put an automatic transmission in this, or create the jbeam for a variable pitch propeller which would be really cool. (I'll look into real variable pitch stuff to see if it's doable.) Plus I don't think the engine/driveshaft can break atm. Mesh - I want to remake the engine mesh as right now it's just scaled pickle engine. I will also add a few panels around the cockpit area, even if it's an empty box. Other than that I kind of want the mesh to remain simple and basic. (also need to add mesh to the tail suspension.) Materials/texturing - This is not done at all, the materials were done very quickly to take pictures, there's no textures at the moment. I want to add some decals and designs. Plus maybe a hidden smiley face for those who search. Parts - I don't know what else there is to really add, other than reworking some jbeam. If you have any suggestions let me know, I want to make this amazing. (If you really read all my rambling I would be really impressed, thank you) Release date - I do not know, I don't know when it's done *enough* for me to be happy releasing it. Don't want to make it too long from now though. And yes, it will be completely free, even though I sunk a lot of time and effort into this I want to share it, I love planes, I want to share that. 10/3/2023 Update - I want to get a bare minimum of materials and key bindings done (like being able to toggle flaps not need you to hold a button.) However these things are being slightly confusing so that's the delay. BTW - there's going to be a variable pitch propeller in the files, it doesn't really work but if any jbeam gurus want to mess around with it, it'll be there. Help - Anybody know a tutorial for input maps/bindings and how to make a toggle-able one that would be really useful. 1/12/2024 Update - Basic materials are color able. Metallic is being weird though. It uses a DCT gearbox, I preferred this over manual and I couldn't get a axle straight from the engine to work. It comes keybound for keyboard and controller. NOTES : - Delete the older versions of this mod before installing the new version. - You must use realistic gearbox behavior in order to get into gear. - Make sure to release the parking break with "P" or the wheels may lock up on take off. - Yes the wings will smoke or catch on fire from friction, I wanted this. (it may do it randomly, not sure why yet) My Ko-fi if you'd like to donate, not necessary but appreciated: https://ko-fi.com/shadow_clan1965 Updated File ( MTN-Goat_Release_2.zip ) - report bugs in this thread.
worth noting most plains afaik dont really have transmissions, the crankshaft connects to the prop sort of like a lawnmoer blade
I know, but I wanted to break realism so I can reverse the prop, to maneuver on the ground before taking off. I want to create a variable pitch propeller but I'm worried about strength.
This is going to be kind of a dump because I love aviation, so heres some suggestions: Different sounds Perhaps a U.S. Airforce or Army skin, such as the Bird-dog or dehaviland beaver Ebike props under the wings travel gear in the rear or the cabin (coolers, fishing rods, tents, chairs, etc.
u/RobARMMemez here! Yeah, my usernames vary greatly between platforms. pfp should be proof it's me. I'm really happy I could help with this and give some insight into the physics of the plane. Can't wait for it to be released!
Ohhh, I love the idea of the wing mounted bikes, I want that, plus more bits to fly around in a crash. Making skins is really daunting, I first need to properly unwrap the model which idk how to do, so this may be in a future update, but not at release.
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
No, I think I will just do some basic panels around the engine and cockpit, and leave most of the tail exposed. Once I do that and figure materials out, i think I'll want to release it. Then work on small things later on like sounds and particles, the physics are basically done.
Once I do the materials/textures, and model the cockpit area (like panels and glass not the interior)
I'm not sure, a lot of time goes into making a whole vehicle. Plus I'm not sure what plane or style of plane I'd want, nothing too big as beamng's maps don't really fit that.
