From some of my research on the BeamNG there isn't any physical motor mounts on them. Some ask why motor mounts? Motor mounts and transmission mounts factor a lot of the structural integrity of a car in a collision. Plus it will add to the realism. If motor mounts were simulated corrected maybe with people who like the bruckell might get a little tq twist when they rev it etc. My guess is with nodes and beams their connected but it needs to be done properly. Some cars utilize their motor mounts in collisions. My civic for example will push the motor beneath the car in a collision to prevent harm to the cabin. I think setting up proper motor mounts will make collisions more realistic. Just my 2 cents. And don't forget tranny mounts too.
I second the motion. Chevys have pressurized mounts that burst during a collision, and the engine drops to the ground (as you said about your Honda) and the structure would def benefit from such support. Good idea
There are motormounts... The motors physically move on bumps, and my Cadillac(and all of Gabes cars too) has beams that bend the firewall as the engine gets pushed back into it, and it ejects the transmission into the ground. During testing I once crashed it in a way where it wedged the engine into the firewall, with the transmission pointed downwards, and the car litterally sat with the front wheels 40cm off the ground, being supported by nothing but the transmission and the rear wheels... Secondly, cars in BeamNG are pretty old, they're far too old to use advanced collision tech like that, at least compared to the real life that actively push the engine underneath the car or whatever. Also, if they didn't simulate engine mounts, and just hard-mounted them, the cars would behave very differently. I hardmounted a motor by accident with one WIP project, and the car shook like hell on bumps because there was a 250kg piece of solid steel attached to the front end... I reckon you'd notice it immediately. Pretty much a useless thread if you ask me, since you clearly didn't do enough research, or you would've found out that all of this is already in the game :/
I would like to actually see the mounts I want to see the mounts modeled and their design giving a purpose. I know the cars in this game are old but I feel have mounts in a car like the covet and you gave it too much power. You could in like 10 minutes of abusive driving cause damage to the mounts. In the honda world I know you don't fully build an engine with like 500hp etc with the stock mounts. You could but you'll wear your mounts out fast. With automatics bad mounts can result in tranny slips. I already knew it was just coded in game but I'd like to see it properly done with the actually mesh you simple set the strengths of the mount to the realistic values you'd find with a factory mount. I know for a fact that I doubt the stock mounts in the gavril couldn't handle the tq my Cummins mod made. I was thinking about that one day when I was driving it. I believe my chipped Cummins mod had like 1200 tq or something. That kinda of output would destroy factory mounts. I didn't do enough research but I know the engines are held in the car by n/b mounts. But vehicle enthusiasts such as myself would love that it would be taken to a more realistic level. I doubt just a low poly mesh and some jbeam wouldn't hurt performance. Was just a suggestion.
Damage, sure. How much damage really won't be THAT noticeable after 10 minutes. Not to mention, the majority of vehicles have motor and transmission mount designs that will prevent the motor from leaving the chassis if the rubber insulators fail. The way it would leave the chassis would have to be torn away from the mounts. A.k.a. steel ripped out of steel. You really need to learn more about what's happening in BeamNG. Engine torque reaction is in the works as we speak, which means we don't have it. How in the world could the motor do damage to the mounts currently in BeamNG?
Don't take the 10 minute thing literal I was just thinking of something off the top of my head. I'm aware that mounts don't damage that easily. Was just making the suggestion to have actual motor mounts and such
Do you just ignore what we're saying? We. Already. Have. Proper. Actual. Motor. Mounts. They ALREADY ARE modeled and have soft n/b to allow the engine to move. ???? Hard to understand or what? I know you're gonna try to respond with this with "yyeaaaaah but like, better proper motormounts! So they deflect the engine away" 1: The cars in BeamNG are too old to use that technology so no. 2: I haven't EVER heard of any front-engined regular street car which actively moves the engine out of the way in a crash, even if you claim your car does that. As far as I know, the engine ALWAYS plays a vital role in stopping the front end from deforming too far, hence why the mid-engined van I did is so incredibly weak with the engine removed from the front. 3: Engines reacting to torque while in-gear is being worked on and I assume(but don't take my word for it) might be part of the race update. 4: Hopefully that'll also mean you can't put too much torque on the engine or it'll break the mounts. Please,... Please don't respond to this *again* by saying you want something different even though we already told you 3 times it's already there...
I would assume this will come when the drive-train simulation is finalized. No point in adding more stuff to what ultimately is a placeholder system. Or are you trying to tell us something, early access man?
No I'm not trying to tell anything lol Just stating that it's planned, but I have no idea when it'll be finished. I guess it might only come out when the drivetrain simulation is done, makes more sense than my assumption, but who knows
So hang on, does this mean we may have fully simulated engines? Would that hurt FPS, with all of those moving parts?
I kinda doubt they would simulate everything down to the valves and camshafts and stuff, but maybe just major parts like radiator fan, driveshaft, etc.
I was gonna say, that would be awesome and all, but if it was simulated down to the pistons and everything else moving, damn that would be a CPU crusher.
I'm sorry man I just looked in the covet and didn't see mounts. BeamNG has mounts, good. Delete this thread or close it then. Thanks.
