Admin team of Modding For Dummies Discord Server Is proud to introduce you to our second Modding challenge for beginners and advanced modders. Since the goal of our server is to promote and encourage people to make mods, we thought it was a good idea to do a little challenge. Since we understand that not everyone is able to build a car from scratch, we will leave room for different skill levels. The second challenge will be taking place from 3 May 2019 until 1 June 2019. How to participate? Option #1: Join the Modding for Dummies discord Server and tell the admins that you're joining the challenge and upload the finished mod to the repo with “MFD modding challenge 2 level (level name)” in the subtitle. Then share the link to the dedicated channel when you post it. We will try to help people during this challenge but please keep in mind that we cannot be online 24/7. Option #2: Tell us in this thread that you're joining the challenge and upload the finished mod to the repo with “MFD modding challenge 2 level (level name)” in the subtitle. Then share the link in this thread. Challenge 2 - King of the playgroundSo the theme is playground props, think about inflatable banana's, unicorns, swings, slides, you name it, be creative! The challenge itself will start next week on friday and the deadline will be the 1st of June. The main focus will be props but if you want to create a map, go ahead! To kick it off, I will be making something today, @AiTorror will start something very soon as well! Rules Don't start before the starting date Don't steal Be original No NSFW content Follow rules CriteriaChosen Jury will judge the mods by looking for: Mesh detail/skin quality Jbeam quality Configs and their descriptions Creativity Realism Console errors The prizeThe prize will be something summer-themed but it will depend on your location and willingness to share your adress with one of us. It will be something unique Additional notesSince this is the second challenge that we host, we will learn while doing. We do not expect full cars or stuff like that. It should be an entry level modding challenge. We will try to be online often to check on the challenge sub-channels on discord, as well as in this thread and help with any questions. If you have any questions you can ask them over here or on MFD discord Server. Good Luck! Modding For Dummies Admin team: @Blijo @Neidjel @D-Troxx @Ai'Torror @Stoat Muldoon https://discord.gg/39dvN7z
Sweet! Glad to see the modding challenges are continuing! Hopefully I'll have some spare time to try and work on something. Just hoping school wont take up all my time It will be interesting to see the submissions
>fun in the sun with inflatable things >no NSFW I see what they could have done here --- me: I want to make an inflatable pool for this contest also me: shut up you already have 8 projects to finish, 3 to remake from scratch, 5 to decide whether they should be scrapped or not, 2 to improve and an uncountable number as ideas
I will add you on the list of people who are participating then A cat has 9 lives, a modder has 9 projects.
Possibly. But I have one off my list: It will be available for everyone who participates in the 2nd modding challenge(you get it when you have a mod on the repo) first. Testers and other people are an exeption of course Then it might be released for the rest of you later this year
What do you think about brass version of that for rewards? Will have some text on the bottom as well. Its 50mm in diameter and will be 5mm thick. (I know that it is on the small side, but shipping across continents can be quite pricey)
Soo... I bought the material, but forgot about cutting it so it all got delayed a little bit, hopefully tomorrow I'll have the brass disks ready for engraving, and hopefully do at least one test run in brass
What do you have issues with? Did you check the official Wiki page? If you still can't figure it out with the help of wiki, feel free to either ask us on the MFD server or use the Mod Support section of the forum. --- Post updated --- Also, we are debating extending the challenge by a week if anyone would need some extra time to finish their entry, so please let us know if you need some time to finish your mod.
I've been trying to go through the wiki pages for a while but I still don't get it, and my discord wort let me chat in the server
So, lets announce the winner of the second challenge shall we? First of all, thank you for participating, if you haven't got your playcar from me, please shoot me a pm. Secondly, it was very close, your creations all had some interesting features, concepts and ideas behind them. While reviewing, we gathered some feedback for you: bumpercar: pro: custom textures fun to drive, but would be much better if it didnt bounce as much nice and simple model with okay polyflow the bumpers are jbeamed somewhat separately which could give some cool results if they had the right beam values. con: engine sound errors in console + no sound in game while there are sound files in the mod package. bumpercar.jbeam has 1 coltri and the nodes it references to dont exist. same with bumper_shell in bumpercar_body.jbeam in console references to a combustion engine UV is AO baked but unable see it in the ingame result. wheel model offcenter to the jbeam, should have used wheel hub system. should have used a bit more nodes on the bumper 5 gears while normal bumpercars only have 1 gear remark: seat steeringwheel+column and engine feel out of place since its borrowed from vanilla vehicle but is an understandable decision lights are not working no pedals but did find them in the .dae foamwall: pro: no console errors Looks nice with the different colours con: just a copy of the concrete wall with a new simple colored retexture + resize to half the size. some zero's have just been removed from the beam values to make it lighter and act a bit different way to heavy does not deform, more nodes per block are needed. -gets stuck in vehicles remark: feels like a mod made in 10 minutes. pedal car: pro: very nice model realistic speed con: several parts and especially the grille is to high poly. doesnt deform much when crashed into with about 40km/h beamNG has critical error when a vehicle is crashed into it with about 50km/h or greater frame and chains need more edgeloops its a bit on the heavy side Wheels have an offset jbeam Some nodes are in odd places which leads to weird deformation. Example, top node on the radiator. It is to floppy, a frame like that would be decently sturdy and stiff. Glass texture error(fixed by now I think) remark: very ambitious, but needs more time. swing set: pro: no console errors besides missing .pc file, which isnt really a error since it doesn't need one frame has a propper amount of polys except for the frame, it could use some more edge loops swingseat acts like it should and doesnt get stuck in a vehicle con: material isnt setup propperly in the .cs file only has 1 layer but options references to more than 1 layer. all the metal parts uses the vanilla mirror texture frame is jiggly and needs more reinforcement vehicle gets stuck in the frame, goes through frame with high speed frame is to strong heaviest swing frame in the world. remark: none (it doesnt launch cars) We had a very hard time to decide which mod to chose. Even though we "only" had 4 entries... In the end, after a vote, we decided for the Bumpercar by @LJ Dezignz ! Congratulations! We hope that you guys all had fun creating these mods and we also hope that you do something with the feedback to make the mods even cooler I will contact LJ Dezignz and send them their reward, a custom made medal! The next challenge will be announced soon-ish and will be something else again We made quite a few rewards so the next challenge will have a prize again! The MFD admin team
