I put much time and effort in this project and started with barely any knowledge about modelling. I nealry finished the model, but I don't have enough time or I'm not smart enough to teach myself Jbeam. So as long as there is no good tutorial for the Jbeam or someone else wants to code it this project is dead. I'm sorry.

    The progress so far:

Just finished the bodywork. I think it looks pretty good. So far I have used 1527 polygons. Is that too much?

Please tell me, what I can do better. :)

That looks amazing! You are really good in modeling. I love this car as the Mercedes 300 SL is one of my favorite cars.

I don't think you can reduce the poly's much on such a curvy car. It does look rather gorgeous;)

Here's some pictures that I took of a 300SL if it helps any.

Thank you, but the normal 300 SL is completly different from the 300 SLR. :) More important are pictures of the framework under the body. They are very rare.

Looking very good, I really like your car choice. I've liked that car for so long, and now its going to be in Drive. Mesh looks great.;) Oh, do you plan to make a racing version?

Thank you! Good to know that there are still people out there with a good taste in cars ;). But basicly this is a racing version. Althoug the car was street legal its based on the Mercedes W 196, which is Formula 1 racer. But if I finish the coupé I might also do the normal 300 SLR, which is a race car used for Le Mans and Mille Miglia. They are barely different.

I started with the chassis and have a big part of the wireframe done now. But I'm not sure if I did this the right way, because the tubs aren't connected. They are just put together. Is that a problem?

For your info, the cars included with the Alpha mostly consist of 40-60k polys. So this should be fine. :D

Anyway, this is one of my favorite cars of all time, thank you for making this!

Beautiful classic car. So far it looks like a really good start, you have really got the form of the car really well. However I suggest that you remove a few edge loops around the body but other wise it looks great :)

I'm on vacation in Switzerland for the next 7 days, so there won't be any updates. I hope I'm able to continue my work on this as soon as possible. :)

I have been monitoring this closely and I am eagerly awaiting your release in whatever form it comes in. This will be a wonderful car to drive and a great contribution to the garage.
