Hello there, I've been working around West Coast, USA for about a month or two now, just messing with decals and even a bit of AI recently. It's been smooth sailing until now, when I decided I wanted to share my edits. I've realized I have no idea how to turn these edits into a mod (i.e. compile the edited files into a folder).

I tried looking at a couple videos and the official wiki, but the videos were about starting from scratch and the official wiki roared at me before fading away into a history museum. Does anyone know how I'd do it?

I'm also having problem on a custom map I'm trying to make. I imported a bunch of assets from ECUSA, but it seems that some buildings just don't have textures.

Meanwhile, other buildings, like the houses, are missing trims, windows, electrical box, etc. textures.

You will need to also import the materials file from the corresponding map/folder that you got the objects from, sadly i cannot help with sharing your work

I did that. I imported everything...which turned out to be needlessly complicated. Apparently, you can just import the .dae files, .cdae files, and the materials.json and it'll work fine. Didn't even have to import all the textures. Now all I need to do is figure out how to turn edited files into a map mod...

    - Find the original map in your steam content BeamNG levels folder.
    - Unpack it somewhere.
    - Copy your edited files from your BeamNG userfolder levels in the unpacked original folder.

Now it’s getting a bit tricky because you have to replace the paths because otherwise it would mess with the original map.
You have to do a find and replace in all json files in the unpacked folder:
    Find: levels/west_coast_usa
    Replace: levels/yournewname
Then edit the info.json and replace the name of the map here too.

For renaming you can use my tool:
    https://www.beamng.com/threads/beamng-tool-for-map-creators.89058/
On tab 2 there is a renaming function.
Load the zip there, rename and repack with the deploy button.

    Good luck!

Great tool, will definitely come in handy. However, when I tried the renaming tab, it seemed to forget to insert the new name in the .json files.

I probably did it wrong. For context, I was trying to use the rename tool to change the files names from "west_coast_usa" to "the_WCUSA_edit".

Perhaps a bug from my side.
Have you zipped your map before renaming?

nope. after doing that, though (and some trial and error), i can now safely say that i'm ready to share my edits, so thank you and your amazing app.

however, i still need some help figuring out why some buildings are still missing textures. after finding out an easy fix, almost all the houses are perfectly fine now. some of the shops are too, but the shops that have awnings are still missing the textures for them. meanwhile, the car dealership and gas stations are completely blank.

with a copy of your project you could run the shrink feature on tab 1 of my tool. It writes several log files to your project folder. One is about missing material paths. And there is a list shown in the tool which files can be deleted. If you find files there you definitely need, then there must be an error in your json. Just try it.
