So far I've spent 4 hours on a map. 2 hours creating a base, and 3 hours fixing it :| How do y'all do your maps? I'm curious about the process, as it's nearly impossible using the built in editor. Here's the results of me trying to use the ingame editor (aka the stuff I have wasted 3 hours of my life on :|, and probably shortened my life span from my blood pressure):
1.) Grass over the road, usually is temporary, when the map reloads it is gone, or if you go far enough away and come back it's gone - it's visual only. Sometimes the ground cover does stupid stuff like that. Stick rock there for a second & put asphalt right back on it and it'll go away if you can't be bothered to reload or move away. 2.) A block over a truck, okay, what's it do? Get rid of it you don't need it 3.) Decal roads like you to add more points to them (nodes), if they go squiggley on you. Use more nodes as needed, but no need to over do it. Also, don't forget your stretch and your break angle settings to help you make more realistic roads once you get your squiggles worked out. No, it's not modern art. 4.) The center-of-the-map HOLE from using the SET_HEIGHT brush, and when the editor 'skips' or 'hitches' temporarily and you've had the mouse button held down, it puts a big hole (or hill) in the middle of your terrain at 0,0,0 coordinates. Edit this area last, and, use set-height with caution, please. Sometimes the editor does this, it's a bug that's still not fixed. 5 & 6. not sure what you did to crash it 7.) Same as 3. Last picture WHAT DID YOU DO??? I have no CLUE what you did there on that and I've made quite a bit of maps for myself (well 3 maps but they're huuge, you can link them in my profile, they're on here). If you need to learn how to carve a beautiful road into a mountain, banked and all, like a pro, read up on SOMETHING ABOUT ROADS thread, just search for it. It's buried under content creation IIRC but do search. Also, feel free to steal all the road textures you want out of my Tennessee or So-Cal Interstate maps. They're there for everyone on this site to use for Beamng.drive stuff. Don't use it for commercial games other than Beamng.drive though or I'm tossing anyone I catch into the angry rabid and starving porcupine pit. Save Save often, please. It will crash if you're out of memory too. Try updating your video driver, this can help a lot. Also, please don't use a square size higher than 2~3 at the MOST, on your terrain. Otherwise, you will have issues with the terrain collision differing from the visible mesh (car sinking into ground near edges of cliffs, invisible giant bumps at bottom of a hill, etc). I mean, you can do it with a rolling sand dunes map, but otherwise, no usually no.
I am using a large square size, this map needs to be large. Most of the terrain clipping issues are from non smooth terrain. But the driveable area is 100% ok. re: block over the truck, this should be a gas station but after a game crash, and even a cache clear, it's still broken re: hole, that was using set slope :/ editor is annoyingly broken re: crashes, simply saving the map :| Thanks for permission to use textures though. The ones on Tennessee are really nice! Also thanks for some confirmation that ground cover is visual. I've nearly been ripping my hair out because of it. EDIT: Also the way I cause those crashes? Saving :| The game crashes because it has no idea how to save forest brushes, and guess what? I HAVE TO RE ASSIGN THOSE, EVERY TIME I LOAD THE GOD DAMN MAP. I swear one day I'm just going to make a T3D editor in Unity :|
Gas station issue, check your paths for that model then. delete documents\beamng.drive\cache0.9.????\levels folder. Delete gas station in editor. then try to save it. Beamng.drive will accept a terrain up to 4096x4096 square, 16bit greyscale image, instead of stretching the terrain wildly from a much smaller size. Don't import in the wrong format or it will come up mostly flat and unusable. OK OK I admit, I have a square size of 5.2 on Tennessee "Roane County" map of mine BUT, I've managed to hide it well enough that no one usually says anything. A map of 4096 units X 5.x square size will take a YEAR or more to finish! Try a 30-day trial of World-machine or L3DT (what I use, bought it) to get it figured out if you need to change terrain size. will check back tomorrow.
Well I'm sort of stumbling upon a solution for some of my issues Code: dmt3d.exe autopaint -material=Grass -heightRange=0,15 my_fiele.ter
