This is a simple one, and easily implementable, just make the WASD keys standard for every copy of BeamNG. It would make it easier for everyone to use the game, and people would not have to go alter the inputmap.
Uh, using your right hand is better than your left hand so arrow keys are best. Not sure why you would want to play with your left hand or even with a keyboard at all. (If you have an xBox you can get a PC wireless receiver for $10 like I did or just plug it in if you have a wired one)
I love arrow keys in race games, when I was 3 I got NFS HP III and I have loved the arrows in car games ever since. Personally, I think WASD is better in CoD and FPS games. Don't change to WASD, its fine the way it is.
I think this is a great idea because whenever i play racing games or any kinda car game i love to use the wasd keys and it is much easier and more comfortable.
I prefer left hand throttle, right hand steering with a keyboard. Feels like I have more control. Arrow keys for left and right, shift and control for accelerate and brake.
If you're right handed then using your right hand will always be better than the left. I like t use arrow keys for driving and the left hand for clutch and shifting when I use a keyboard.
It's definitely not hard to change, it's just annoying to have to change it every update. I prefer WASD because i can drive with my left hand and move the camera with my right hand without moving my left arm to the right side of my keyboard. Maybe they should just put control change in the settings. Works for everyone.
Try copying your custom input map to a new "custom" folder in the "scripts\client\inputmaps" folder. I believe the game is coded to read from there before reading the default input maps.
I honestly think it should be player choice. Keeping only one set of controls may frustrate players in the future.
...because right-handed people use their mouse on the RHS (and so do some of the left-handed people i know) and the cursor keys are on the RHS too. using your left hand on the wasd keys works better (which is why 90% of all pc games use this layout).
