Hello. I'm looking for a wide open map, with different terrain textures, jumps and high speed areas to test cars and have fun without obstacles to crash into. I am aware of the grid map, however it is only plain. Therefore I would be very grateful if someone could suggest a map that meets my requirements. Alternatively if no such map exists as of yet, I would be equally grateful if someone could make me such a map, as I am unable to do this myself due to me being blind. Many thanks.
Yes I am totally blind, no sight what so ever . I also like Dragon ball z, hence my name . As for asking how I play, I use sound as best I can to determine my surroundings. For example I use side barriers and walls on tracks to help me navigate turns etc. I may not be the best on racing games, but I have lots of fun and gaming is my passion. I have my very own map for GTAV, which is adapted so I can have fun driving the many vehicles in the game. When I heard BeamNG having a track editor, I immediately became interested, hence why I joined hear with you guys .
Please tell me if you are completely blind what's plain about Grid Map and why you are looking for different textures ? If you are looking for open spaces there are lots of maps that can provide this feature, the only thing you need is a pc one step beyond potato status and you're good to go Quite a few maps have airport spawning points for instance, they are suited for open space explorations, just to give an example.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but grid map is just the flat area with nothing on it. It's perfect for going top speed, but there's no other terrain textures like off-road etc. The reason why I want different terrains is so I can test out different cars and how they handle, I.E one car may be good on asphalt, but rubbish off-road. If the grid map had different road textures and a few jumps here and there, it would be perfect as it doesn't seem to have an end so you can drive indefinitely with nothing to crash into. I also want to send cars flying, another reason why I want bumpy terrain. Unfortunately because I'm completely blind I can't edit or make tracks myself, so any help I can get will be appreciated.
So that means you are looking for different road surfaces, not textures. Textures are commonly understood as graphical features in gaming or general digital graphics context. Of course in real life a texture is a structure in three dimensions indeed. It seems you have chosen quite a challenge driving cars without eye sight ! How are you even capable of operating the game like selecting cars and maps to drive on ?
Oh, sorry for the confusion, in that case I do mean surfaces . I get sighted assistance to read out the menus the first few times I get a new game, but it doesn't take me long and I start memorising all the menus. Take Beam for example, to get to vehicles I press escape and go down with numpad5 5 times. To be honest, Beam is one of the hardest games to navigate, as sometimes I end up spawning in as a traffic cone or something by mistake! :d I'm also very good on the old NFS underground games, because I can drag race independently and I listen to the pitch of the car engine to shift gears at the right time. With that said, would it be possible for you to make me a track now you know what I'm looking for?
Well, first you need to know that most of the users on the forums here are no advanced modders. I myself could be considered as a quite established modder in terms of capabilities, not in amount of mods I share with the community. But I am not a map maker, I focus mainly on vehicle modding. The good news is that most probably you won't need to have maps especially created for your condition, but that there are plenty existing possibilities already there for you to explore. It's just a matter of finding your way to the appropriate map locations of the existing maps for BeamNG. I guess we could use some help and advice from other members reading this too because it will take me a little while to figure out how to give you the best advice on how to set things up for you in a user friendly way. Anyone wants to jump in here ?
Sandy Mountain is hilly but not extreme often. Has a lot of open space there, runway and roads too. I think by the way, Grid Map is not empty map. I sure, it could be fun to you to explore this map. It's even more simply to explore because of surrounding walls there in 1km square.
Thanks for your advice. I was obviously mistaken for another map then as I know there is a vanilla game map where it's just a never ending flat space to drive on. I have tested out the grid map you mentioned, however it's not a lot of fun as I keep totalling my car when I crash into the walls, hence why I want a map where it's just completely open and no obstacles to crash into, but with jumps etc so I can send cars flying .
Yes there are two grid maps. One larger and one called Grid Map Small or Grid Map Small Pure. The small one is a pure grid as its name suggests but the bigger one has a lot of walls indeed. The problem is that if you have no eye sight that hitting jumps will be quite difficult because approaching and entering jumps or ramps demand a precise trajectory. So the idea would be to find some predefined spawn points where you can hit a jump by going straight out for instance. The CrashHard 2.0 map has some of those features I believe and there is also this map the youtubers use a lot, can't remember its name currently, it's with a big downhill jump that ends in a water reservoir.
it’s really not that hard to make maps with the new editor. I could probably try to make a map that meets your requirements, but I’m not a mapmaking professional so I can’t promise anything
That would be awesome if you could do that. I don't know how it works, but couldn't someone just make an edited version of the small grid map, and just put different surfaces in there? That would be good because it lets you drive forever, so I wouldn't have to keep restarting to a particular spawn point.
Could someone tell me the sequence of buttons to press to get to sandy mountain as mentioned? I would like to test this map out.
Oh I didn't know you have to download it. Could you possibly provide a link, and then tell me how to get to it from the menu? Unless you have a better alternative map...
Here is link to map: https://www.beamng.com/resources/sandy-mountain.2644/download?version=6990 You also could try Black Hills 2015. It's has even more flat grounds and many roads without borders to sandy roadsides. Also you can find some ramps near roads to jump. But be aware - tunnels there at the map.
