Just started using linux again (pop_os, and yes I know it's not the supported version), and am noting a few things. Most of this is just to let devs know if they don't already.

Native has weird alt tabbing behaviours with it being active or not. My minor bugbear I have here is alt tabbing to vscode (or any program) and beamng keeps running at full power with audio, unless my mouse is off of beamng at the time of switching.

Native doesn't update lua scripts moving folders (observation only, there's probably a lot more to this). Anyone know how to fix this? I have to fully re-launch

Native doesn't open up folders, this is from the unpacked mod button, or the saved configs button.

Native won't let me change resolution in full screen (but I believe this is a linux limitation, not beamng)

Proton is kinda okay, but isn't as good as native (nice work to the dev(s) who worked on it).

The one thing I noticed in the short time of using proton, is that the mods have to be approved each time it launches.

Proton gives very deep and weird directories for mods etc, though I don't think beam devs can do anything about that. It also opens up folders in their own proton weird thing, making it hard to grab the file/folder's address.

I do believe I've made the big switch to Linux now, instead of just testing it out. Proton has potential, is native linux going to keep getting supported? I noticed that I have to have compatibility mode on before I can even download beamng, so just wondering.

I just realised that the lua reloads very fast, and I think that's because maybe it doesn't reload much of the lua, especially stuff being modified in mods

Long time linux here also, thought would reply to some of these. (maybe this should go into the Linux Port thread no?)

Native has weird alt tabbing behaviours with it being active or not.

Yeap I can see what you mean with this, OS/game can lock up for a few seconds I find, probably just need more optimizations in the backend for linux build.

Native won't let me change resolution in full screen

Yep same on Linux Mint (what I was on) and KDE Neon (what im now using), probably due to x11/wayland.

    Native doesn't open up folders.

Yep, probably still only coded for windows (name says explorer rather then file manager etc)

Proton is kinda okay, but isn't as good as native (nice work to the dev(s) who worked on it).

Yep dev's are just pure awesome for doing a Linux version of the game and not just do a proton only way.

The one thing I noticed in the short time of using proton, is that the mods have to be approved each time it launches..

Yep, probably a issue with the prefix system perhaps?

Proton gives very deep and weird directories for mods etc.
Yep this is for every Windows games that runs under Proton/Wine/Steam and how the pfx (prefix) system works to make a windows directory (one reason why I prefer native linux of a game over just proton everything), only fix for this which devs already did is to make a native linux version of the game.

I do believe I've made the big switch to Linux now, instead of just testing it out.
    Welcome friend, and fellow australian!

Proton has potential, is native linux going to keep getting supported?
Proton is indeed a good thing to have as a backup, I believe they will eventually get native linux build of the game out from experiemental in the near future, why else release a linux build after many years without one?, we just have to report bugs and give them time to update it over time and be patient,

I noticed that I have to have compatibility mode on before I can even download beamng, so just wondering.
I belive this is only because they haven't done a proper linux depot release in their steam game upload, it just sees a window build of the game, hench why you need to do the compatibility mode (which you can do turn for all games in steams preferences).
