I love the new license plate design-changing option, so I set to work creating every US plate design since 1980 along with custom fonts. That's all well and good, but I wish I could move the letters a bit closer. In the attached image I have the same number of letters on my plate as on the real thing (obviously). The letters are the same height, but they just don't fit (obviously). Additionally, the normal map for the letters is overhanging the debossed border of the plate, creating a jarringly flat (and inaccurate) disturbance. Is there any easy way to narrow the letter spacing, or is it completely fixed as-is? I really don't want to make a custom "platefont.js" file... Photo inset is from Google images.
I'm not sure if you can have custom fonts in there. Try to copy licenceplate-default.html platefont.js to your custom plate folder. Then open the html file in notepad and scroll around line 100. Here you can find section that are commented with short description of what they do. Try to edit some values.
Thanks for your very quick response, as usual . I tried editing some values in the licenseplate-default.html copy, but I'm pretty sure that it uses the default file anyway. I'll keep trying for a bit to see what happens.
The only way I've found to make the letters closer together is to make them larger on the character map. The problem with this though, is that they can't be too tall or they will get cut off. I'm having the same problem with some of my Canadian plates. In your case, I think it'll look good if you adjust the scale in the json to be smaller and move the text down just a touch.
