Hey guys. For the holidays, I'm thinking about getting the Lenovo Ideapad Y510p, and the MSI GP70. Before you go apeshit on me for getting a laptop, please consider this: I need a laptop as I travel a lot and would like to use it as an all-around computer as well.

Anyway, I was wondering how smoothly these will run BeamNG at medium-high settings. I currently use a POS Lenovo "Thinkpad" W500 that can barely achieve 25fps on a good day with absolute lowest settings and 1024 x 768 resolution. (Core 2 duo, 2.8GHz, some sort of AMD integrated graphics)

    Ideapad specs:

    Processor
    4th Generation Intel Core i7-4700MQ Processor (2.40GHz (up to 3.40)1600MHz 6MB)
    -
    Operating System
    Windows 8.1 64
    -
    Display
15.6" FHD LED Glare Wedge 1920x1080
    -
    Graphics
    NVIDIA GeForce GT755M GDDR5 2GB
    -
    Memory
    8.0GB PC3-12800 DDR3L SDRAM 1600 MHz
    -
    Hard Drive
    1TB 5400 RPM+24GB SSD
    -
    Optical Drive
    DVD Recordable (Dual Layer)
    -
    Network Card
    Intel 7260 b/g/n Wireless (2x2 BGN)
    -
    Bluetooth
    Bluetooth Version 4.0
    -
    Warranty
    One year
    -
    Battery
    6 Cell 72 Watt Hour Lithium-Ion

This is pretty much pasted directly from Lenovo's website. If you have any other suggestions, than make sure they're under $1,000.

I'm also considering an MSI GP70:

    • Windows 7 Home Premium
    • Intel® Core™ i5-4200M Processor
    • 15.6" HD Anti-Reflective Display (16:9; 1366 x 768)
    • NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 740M 2G GDDR3
    • Matrix Display
    • Cooler Boost
    • Gaming Keyboard by SteelSeries
    • 750GB HDD
    • 8GB DDR3L 1600MHz System Memory
    • USB 3.0 x 2, USB 2.0 x 2
    • VGA, HDMI
    • DVD Super Multi
    • Built-in 720p HD webcam
    • Audio Boost Technology

Some specs are absent, look it up if you're interested.

    Thanks!

I'm not too great at estimating laptop performance since they use mobile CPU's and GPU's, but I think that would run the game pretty well. As just a guess I would say you could easily get a smooth framerate at normal settings, but I'd wait until someone else replies.

It does run the game very well on medium settings. It can run them on max settings but its only about 20-25 FPS. Means you can drive to a spot to take pictures without having to deal with like 8 FPS.

Edit-I already replied to this on RoR forums... AWK.

If its AMD graphics and Intel CPU, then the graphics are dedicated not integrated.

I concur with bubbleawesomes performance prediction for this.

I think one of those is ideal for running beamng drive. You'll probably get 20-30 FPS on avg. I have an Alienware 14 and that runs Beamng Drive at about 50 FPS.

Alienware's are ridiculously overpriced, and I ended up getting the Ideapad and ultimately averaging 60 fps on max settings on the empty gridmap.
