An HP elitebook 8760w with dual or quadcore I7 cpu and nvidia quadro 3000m runs beamng.drive at medium to high settings at 40-60 fps. Available for between 300-400 dollars us online

What kind of budget is your friend here on? If he can spend somewhere around $700, this is a great one:

Thinking about getting this one myself.

If he is looking for something cheaper, then refer to @tdtz 's post, that seems like quite a lot of power for not a lot of money. No matter what, any halfway decent gaming laptop for Beamng.drive will be pretty expensive

The 3 most important things for a gaming laptop are RAM (8 or 16 gigs, 8 is fine), a good graphics card (preferably an Nvida graphics card around the 960), and a good core (quad cores are best for Beamng.drive, and an i5 and an i7 are virtually the same, no need paying an extra $100

The better the laptop, the pricier it gets. Is he positively only allowed to have a laptop? PC's are much cheaper than laptops, especially if you build it yourself.

    That laptop is $1,000.

That's going to have to be used, and it'll be a rough find. Do your research and keep an eye on craigslist.

Prices vary widely, I was referring to a refurbished laptop. I bought mine from www.walmart.com for $550 dollers us with 8 gb of ram but they sold out. I suggested it because as a business laptop it is very rugged. Cool Username is right about the three most important things in a gaming rig. I would also suggest if you can find a computer repair shop they may sell good refurbished pc laptop/desktop for not alot of money. ps I mistyped in my earlier post about the price sorry about that I was tired that night but you can still get this pc online for between 450-850 dollars depending on how it is configured.
