Also the game likes to crash when I modify cars

It makes no sense that this happened after clearing the cache, unless you had the wrong files in the wrong place.
Please check in Safe Mode.

If Safe Mode works fine, then it means something is wrong inside your userfolder, meaning the issue could be caused by:
- A broken mod
- Broken files in your userfolder
- and anything alike that
You may want to try wiping your userfolder entirely and checking again (point #2: https://wiki.beamng.com/BeamNG_FAQ#How_do_I_perform_a_clean_reinstall.3F )

If Safe Mode has the same issue, it's possible that your installation is broken.
