So I got a used G25 recently, as I just posted about that not too long ago. Problem is, Well, Defective shifter. You get the point. Read this post to help me with that if you want; http://www.beamng.com/threads/logitech-g25-hardware-problem.18091/ Back to my question; is it worth buying a new shifter controller as a seperate USB device to go alongside my wheel? I have heard good things about the Thrustmaster TH8 RS, so thats the one I've looked at. It is a separate USB device that would plug into my PC and in games that support multiple controllers, it would work alongside my wheel. What do you guys think? Im definitely looking for something to replace my G25 shifter, but maybe you guys have some feedback for me.
Why not keep what you've got: Paddles and a shifter which supports 6 gears. Just map 6th to reverse and stop thinking about it. How many vehicles in BeamNG.drive or other racing games you play have a number (n) of forward gears where 8>n>5?
True. Only a couple vehicles in Beam only use over 5 gears. I already mapped my 6th to be 'R', And I can modify the shifter itself to make it feel better. I forgot that BeamNG doesn't have support for a splitter for things like the T75, and the only other game I can think of with semi trucks doesn't support multiple controllers. So my best bet would be to fix this controller. The TH8 RS does look tempting though. Maybe if I find a used one at some point for a decent price and good condition I might give it a shot. But for now I guess I will repair the G25 shifter. Surely it cant be that bad. Its probably a bad wire or switch. Knowing a few people who are good with repairing stuff like this it shouldnt be too hard. Really my only complaints about the G25 are that its too short and too loose feeling, both of which can be fixed with some hands on work, possibly for a fraction of a TH8 RS
hehe, I'd normally be one of those people that repairs things, however, without device in hands it's hard to do much. switch itself may also be damaged or cable broken internally, still repairable but you'd need to solder a new one in
Is the new logitech shifter for the g29 compatible? Its much cheaper if budget is an issue. Also repair is totally an option that you should consider, just shorting out the correct pins on the switch should be able to let you know if the switch is dead or if its something worse. But having moved from a g25 to a t500rs recently i would have far more faith in the thrustmaster shifter being of way higher quality especially having looked at reviews of it before. I am still trying to figure out if i should buy a g25 shifter usb adapter at a cost of £20 or just buy a thrustmaster shifter for £100. Might be worth saving up for if reviews are to be believed.
The shifter from the G29 is not compatable with the G25, but it is with the G27. I still need the G25 shifter if I am to play RoR with my G25, but I plan on playing beamNG more. I will be saving up towards a TH8RS if I cant repair the G25 shifter. But If I can repair the shifter, I will just tighten the spring tension in the mechanism and expand the stick further up so that its taller.
the g25 shifter feels like garbage. that thrustmaster looks nice. i had a wild idea to turn a spare transmission i had into a controller but its way beyond my skill or imagination. taking apart the trans is easy, but how the hell would i figure out how to wire in whatever input device that talks to the game. maybe a push button switch on each shift fork or something. it would take a lot of time and room but god would it feel good.
Nice bump Atleast the thread is still relevant as for I still am wondering whether or not to upgrade the shifter.
You could use switches on each fork, but they would have to touch which may be intrusive to how it would feel. You could use a long lever hinging switch possibly, even better could be using reed switches. Then you could add some magnets to the shifter and whenever it got close enough to a switch (distance based on strength of magnet) it would engage the switch. You could use this to close a circuit sending an output high on whatever you have it connected to. Then you could either look into HID specifications and build your own circuit board to deal with the inputs, or buy a HID development board and connect your reed switches to that. Then basically any game should be able to pick up a gaming HID device including Windows and Android games.
thats a project. its too bad the trans i have is a 5 speed. i might still have 6 foreword gears if i take mechanism that stops you from going from 5th to reverse out. i know people turn honda 5 speeds into 6 for track use once in a while.
