When I imported a .dae file borrowed from another map to my map it gave me the option to override the scale of the object. As it took me a few tries to get the right size, a few of the objects are too big or too small. I tried deleting the .dae files and the .cs files accompanying the mis-scaled objects, then re-importing them from the original map, and nothing changed.

You should not use that feature, as it's just an old leftover and not used officially. Instead scale the object with the Editor itself, not on import.
