I ended up a little sick of the smoke in the game so with some help of LJFhutch I was able to increase the smoke to something a lot denser but doesn't cost you too many FPS. To install simply download the file and then extract it to the following location:
    BeamNG.drive/lua

This will overwrite the original file so you may want to create a backup of the original particles.json

Is it just me or what ? the wheels are spinning and the cars aren't moving as if there's no traction at all ? :\

Hmm, that's odd. I only edited the particles that the wheels produce, not the actual tyres themselves

Do you like how it is now? I can make it denser for you but it starts to eat FPS

The only reason it may not be working for you guys is if you haven't put it in the correct location

I'm honestly unsure as to why it isn't working, I'll have a look tomorrow

No, its because we changed the values of the .json files and kept the text document from your download in there accidentally which then makes the tires spin and not move. Its a fault on our part.

the behavior and how and where the smoke is generated in beamng is just wrong. i hope the devs will remake the smoke and burnout particles .... :/

Oh, I understand. So you can't just put the new file in and delete the old one?

Your download is a notepad file, not a .json file.

Ah I see, it's because I used notepad to edit the file but never changed it back to the original format. Will fix ASAP

in my opinion gta 4 had nice buronout smoke, because the amount of produced smoke increased after time. so the first second you had little smoke and after a while the wheel was covered in smoke.
also mafia 2 had a nice idea whith the burnout smoke. they tried to do dynamic smoke particles. ( but in my opinion it didnt look that realistic.)

i know its impossible to have that detailed smoke in a game.

but this is how i would like to see a burnout smoke in a game
(those videos are animated and calculated over a long time)

and here is a real one:

and for comparison here is a burnout in beamng:
