I 'm thinking about implementing some first generation role playing to add some realism to the game.
Nothing visual or audible, just text phrases and maybe some impact on money or reputation.
First gen. RPG has the advance, that you can make lots of combinations without much effort.

For example, when you do a delivery job (the idea for that is written in this tread) and you feel you can't make it on time, then you have the option to call the customer.
This can have impact on your reputation so it's decreasing less when you didn't make it on time but you informed the customer.
The higher your reputation, the more interesting jobs you can become.

If you have an accident then you can have something like this:
"An accident happened. It' seems you are alright. You can see the other car, but no one is exiting the car."
Then you get a list of actions you can take, together with an estimation of time the action will cost you.
You choose for "Check the people in the other car" and then you are getting the following message:
"Two adults are in the car, and two little children. The adults are unconscious, kids are crying."
Then you can choose an option to call an ambulance and wait for it to arrive.
When you have an assurance, it will cost you a small amount of money.
If you decided to drive away from the accident, if you're car is still able to, it will cost you neither money nor time.
But the chance is big that you get caught afterwards and then it will cost you a huge lot of money and a serious cutback of reputation.
    ...

It would be great to have a standard or a tool for it so everyone in the community will be able to generate their own scenarios and append it to the game.

I played a little with Ms Excel and came out with two tables.
One is a list with all the options you can choose from, called 'Actions'.
The other one list up all answers, consequences, etc., called 'Reactions'.
The actions come together with a condition to show them in the list when the condition is true, so only the actions which are relevant will be shown, and you can fill in other conditions to be set.
The reactions will work the same way. They appear on the rising edge of the condition to show them.

I think we must have two sets of conditions: A standard set for conditions which are coming from, and can be used, inside the game, for example 'Acident_Happend', 'Goods_deliverd_on_time', etc. and a user defined set to link the actions and reactions together.

I try to place an illustration here that makes it more clear.

The biggest challenge will be to find a way to implement it into the game, by converting the Excel document to .csv or .xml file ore something like that.

I hope I didn't make it too complicated. I'm just brainstorming.

I'm pretty sure BeamNG isn't being aimed to be a Roleplay Game but it isn't a bad idea, it might not be put into BeamNG when it comes out but maybe a mod could be created for it.

Hitting trees definitely puts a damper on your day/night.

    Not a bad idea.
Would be good for quite some people, but I don't see it having a Huge impact. Since I guess most of the people will be busy crashing & trying to destroy different vehicles in different ways.
It might be good to implement this quite a while after the game's released, at a time when it seems people are getting bored of just crashing :p (For eg: Like with RoR, when they started creating "RP Groups & Servers").

Summing the above: Great & Unique idea (not many people would've thought about it so early in Development of a Simulation game). Would be good to develop & have quite a while after release of the game.

Kind of off : ...speaking of huge impact, i had a live role-playing when a byciclist flew into my windshield, and it wasnt a lot of speaking done.. actually the guy was strugling to breathe for a half minutes or so, becouse the air got knocked out of him. But actually it was something like this :

    - Man, wtf were you thinkin.. ohh.. are you ok?
    - *sitting on the road silently*
    - Hey, are you ok? Should we go to the hospital?
    - No.. no, im fine, its just my bike.. its broken
    - Maan, you look bad, are you sure you're ok?
    - Yes, my back hurts a bit, but its ok.. could you give me a ride home?
    - Sure, but you sit on the back seat, becouse rain is falling in at the front

..so thats about it in 15minutes :D you can implement that for the additional realism :)

    btw :

I predict a lot of "I have had a crash of around 100 kph and then fell off a cliff, totaling my car, I may be late to work this morning."

PUPPY!! :3 But yes, there will be a lot of "I hit a pothole at 150mph, then hit a tree, then killed a pedestrian, I'm gonna be in jail."

Oh don't worry about that. My car was eaten by a dragon, I might be slightly purple.

I kind of don't see why you would want this kind of roleplay in a car game. It really doesn't work, but what you can do, is play with some friends and roleplay with them. Or just buy Garry's Mod and roleplay on there.

That really is the best idea if you want to " roleplay" for now...
I always use my imigination to create my own role-play side missions, something like: Take this van, pickup invisible imagination load there, drive to this point and drop the imaginairy load.
I even do that sort of stuff in games like GTA and such.
And if you've got toooooo much imagination you could also imagine something like this:
Take this van, pickup a cameraman, pick up the p***stars, drive around until you run out of film and make sure the one-eyed dragon doesn'tkill you.
I don't really think R-P stuff is a MUST for the game, but don't get me wrong, I do like the suggestion and I do think it'd be awesome if it got added in the game.

The puppy knew what a horribly sad thing that was to not be able to ride my car ...so she showed how sorry she is for me.. her eyes showed the pain.. the pain of the whole universe.. compressed into the little soul of a puppy dog.. how terrible that was :D
