I'm trying to think of a word... for a thing thats not quite a bodykit

What do you call this plastic shit they put on the old cars? This stuff that's sort of tacked on to create the leading side of the wheel arches in that image, and on the trans am its a standard feature but not on all old American cars. I've seen it added onto various muscle cars to make up fake rocker panels, full wheel arch flares, molded spoilers and things. I'm having a mental block with this word. What is it and where can I find more examples? I was thinking body kit but it doesn't change the look of the car, this stuff just flares it out and you seem to glue it right onto the body.

if I google body-kit I just get a bunch of ways to ruin a car's appearance in a drastic way, rather than a subtle way.

Those are called cow catchers. They're to get cows and other animals out of the way.

 

The bit at the front I would call a Chin Spoiler. as for the flare on the front of the arches, they are essentially Firebird only. I can't think of many other cars that use something like it. Perhaps some sort of side skirt or overfender?

Generally for an older car with body modification, the terminology is Lip or Chin spoiler for the "front bumper", overfenders and boot/duck tail spoiler, depending on style.

I think what you're looking for is fender flare. Both the little "spoiler" on the fender and the bit that goes entirely around the wheelarch(like on SUVs) are called fender flares. If you type in "Trans Am fender flare" on Google, you get pictures of the trim piece from your picture:



And @ above: The lowest lip(that's more to the center of the car underneath the front bumper) would be called a splitter/chin spoiler, and "trans am chin spoiler" will get you pics of the same pieces, but only the front ones(because on a Trans Am, the flares are connected with the chin spoiler/splitter into 1 shape), however you won't get pictures from the rear wheelarch flares, hence why fender flare or wheelarch flare is a better word for what he's looking for
