Honestly, I don't really agree with the payment mods. I think the community has been declining a lot in many aspects. I started playing BeamNG in 2017/18 and I think you can see how the community has been growing exponentially and at the same time decreasing. I hope I do not receive hate for my opinion, I am not one to read the forums all the time since I do not speak English.
The truth is that I don't know my friend, I'm not one to read this type of forum that I just published.
Fair enough. That's why I believe its advised to search for other forums like the one you want to create, so that this doesn't happen. but i feel like its a pretty easy mistake to make so i don't blame you too much.
Personally i think paid mods are fine as long as they are not low-effort meshslaps and there aren't more than free mods. People such as lucasbe deserve money for their work.
What does "the community have been declining" even mean? Like player base? What specifically is on the decline about the community? I agree that the community is declining, but my main problem with it is people who complain about paid mods / don't show any respect to modders. And also, this subject have been debated to death. You could have bumped the other paid mod thread instead of making a new one just to say "i don't like it".
I think paid mods are actually ok, as long as the costs keep reasonable (no sense in having a $25 mod for 1 new car since it would be more expensive than the game itself) and the cost should be able to be balanced for each part of the world like steam does with the games (like here in Brazil I paid like R$30 (currency here) in BeamNG, if it were to convert directly from the US value (Usually BeamNG runs in around $25), I'd have paid more than R$125 for the game here considering R$1=$5, so in that case, a $5 mod would be basically the same price of the whole game for me.) What I think should be done is let some sort of finished version but like without the extra parts in case of a car mod for the user to see if the quality is worth it, and then purchase it for the complete thing. But without the whole price thing being fixed, paid mods for me are a pass on most scenarios, with the only exception I'd make be on LucasBE mods as I know he has a record of dev quality mods, It's easy to say "oh, it's just a 1 Dollar mod, it's 1/25th the price of the game, that's reasonable (and it is in case of people from the US)" But like in my case here, a 1 Dollar mod is like 1/5 of the game price, and Argentina for example is known for having the cheapest market on steam, so there the game is even cheaper
--- Post updated --- I agree with you, here in Argentina the game cost me $200 pesos ($1 USD) and the modifications already cost 4 times more than the game. That's why I don't really agree with this.
Well that's good. I agree that lazy mesh slaps aren't worth paying for. But no one who play BeamNG for the right reasons use mesh slaps anyway. Whether they are free or costs 1000 bucks doesn't matter. Mesh slappers are unfazed by this sort of "paid mods" cricitism. They don't put in any effort into their stuff. The people who are affected by anti-paid modding campaigns are people who put the most effort into their stuff.
Yeah, I think the good modders deserve to get paid, the issue here is the form of payment being centralized in only one currency as of now (most of these are via Patreon or some other sort of platform that doesnt have the same inteligence that Steam has to price the games) As he said, in Argentina the game costs 1 Dollar, and I know there are mods that are like 3 Dollars, is 1 mod 3 times better than the whole game? This is an issue the community is not ready to talk about yet, as majority of it are from the US and european countries.
