Can you please add this to the Steam Greenlight. I will buy it if it is on Steam. Also, a lot of people vote for it.
We are definitely going to try to get it on Steam Greenlight when it is ready (probably in the beta phase, or later in alpha). Right now it is not ready.
If this game does make it onto Steam..... Well, if it does, then we will most definitely have to push to include Steam Workshop. Steam Workshop is keeping Garrysmod, Skyrim, Portal 2, and Torchlight 2 alive on Steam.
dayz standalone dropped on steam and it got some shit reviews because people don't know what alpha is so I wouldn't recommend it
Gabester did say that he wanted to wait. I have a feeling that if we aim for the more intelligent side of Steam, then hopefully we won't get a bunch of bad reviews from whiny, immature people.
Personally I always prefer buying stand alone DRM free copies of games, I hate having to load a front-end just to launch my games. The only benefits Steam has in my mind are the workshop and cloud saves, which make things easier, but just automate tasks you can already do yourself. Still, I hope BeamNG eventually does get on steam because once the majority of people can see this game in action, I think it will blow up.
This is exactly what's wrong with the game industry. They could retire off their $20,000,000+ they've made in the past week and never update the game again, and nobody would be able to do anything about it.
I'll get DayZ when it's a bit more polished. The devs already said that it is an early alpha and if you buy it right now you'll be disappointed.
I agree with this 100%. Sadly, some users on Steam just can't understand the purpose of a beta/alpha. Did you see all of the butthurt about not getting free stuff when VALVe announced the Steam Machine beta was U.S. only? Anyone with a remote understanding of what a beta test is would have understood that this is most likely even worse for VALVe than it is for people living out of the U.S., and that if it were under VALVe's control, everybody would've had a chance. A beta/alpha is about testing as many circumstances as possible in order to gain feedback on what works and what doesn't, and ultimately help the group/company improve the end product by finding issues before release, some people on Steam (most, really) don't seem to be capable of understanding this concept. Waiting until it is finished enough that someone with no technical or modding knowledge at all (Read: Kerbal Space Program) could still enjoy it is probably the best course of action.
Another big problem is some companies use alpha and beta incorrectly. This could make it tricky to get across that BeamNG is in alpha and it's not in beta and about to get a full release.
The thing is, when steam puts up a game, people just look at the videos, screenshots and price to see if they want the game/application. What we could do when and if it makes it to the Greenlight stage is, in the very beginning of the video or when the game starts up, put a large sign that says "THIS GAME IS IN ITS ALPHA/BETA STAGE, YOU MAY ENCOUNTER SOME PROBLEMS OR BUGS. IF REPORTED, THESE BUGS/PROBLEMS WILL BE FIXED IN THE NEXT PATCH/UPDATE." - or something like that.
Right. And people need to understand that it's not even close to being feature complete (hence being in alpha).
Thats exactly what DayZ standalone did, but some shitstorm of not-listening stupids will always be there... I like gabesters opinion. Instead of thinkin economically, they want to release a good AND finished product, not like (for example) Battlefield 4, which didnt work good for weeks after release (Maybe it wasnt DICE, but EA as the publisher) ,or CoD : Ghosts (Or Call of Doggy : Fish AI), which was promoted with lies like having a new engine and much more new things, but in the end it was still a COD like every year.
thing is though people are incredibly impatient so will pay xxx amount of money, expecting a completed game. when they discover it isn't complete they will leave the game annoyed that it isn't and then can't wait one second for an update. i suggest leave people to discover it through videos and reviews on youtube. then they will see its good and that it is in alpha and won't get annoyed.
hey gabester, i have a question, when you guys hopefully eventually go to steam (obviously after a while though) will the people who bought it before than, get a steam key? which would show up in the my orders page, where it has the download and serial key and such, as well as probably a mass email (no idea which would be easier, i'd personally imagine putting it on the order's page would be easier, but, never released a game on steam (because i dont have one to release, lol) so idk how any of it works server/dev side
