so I want to use torque 3D to build a game like beamng. so I want the basic elements like loading levels, driving vehicles, and being able to add mods in. I wanted to know how to do that and wether this should be in the troubleshooting forum.
Well you're going to need some high class coders and lots of time. Because making a game like this would be literally impossible. And why make a new game like BeamNG when you could just use BeamNG?
I imagine step 1 would be a formal education in software design considering how complicated anything “like BeamNG” would be. Some Universities will offer a degree in game design, or at least have videogame design clubs or something of the sort. If you have any local groups like that you can talk to them about this idea. If you really want to try this, I suggest getting a couple of friends with similar interests and start making mods for your favorite games. Then try making simple games in more basic programs. In my middle school everyone had to make a game in Q-basic; some people created surprisingly detailed things.
because you can fully modify beamng like the menu ui and stuff like that atleast from what iv searched up
but is it even possible to try to get just the fndimentals of beamng in torque 3d and build off of that. i dont want that its impossible, i want how is it mabye possible to do it and how to go about doing it. --- Post updated --- no the full ui like how it looks, acts, stuff like that.
Unity and unreal both have asset stores and would be a much better experience if you have never tinkered with game development
my point thats why i want to use torque 3d with just the fundementals of beamng like i stated --- Post updated --- iv tinkered with both thank you
I don't have much experience with game development so correct me if I'm wrong, but since beamng is not open source I don't see how you could begin to make a game based off of its code.
You start by installing Torque3D and start reading everything from these pages: http://www.garagegames.com/documentation/torque-3d
Something that I don't think has been mentioned. You don't get a 'BeamNG-like' game by simply starting something in Torque3D. BeamNG is running its own proprietary physics engine, which is what makes the game special. Anyhow, as mentioned above, nowadays you got more modern alternatives like Unity to start with.
If you don’t know what you’re doing, do not start with Torque3D. Even Unity is somewhat difficult to figure out without instruction
BeamNG.Drive took a dozen or so professional developers nearly a decade and probably millions of dollars to get where it is today. Getting anywhere close will not be possible, unless you happen to have a development team of your own. If you want to learn how to make video games, Unity is a good place to start, and you might want to look for a local video game or programming club to help you.
