So as the title states, i broke gridmap... I tried to create a custom map from it using the editor and saving it under a new name (which now wont open wasting nearly 3 hours but thats not the point here). This, however, has caused gridmap to be flat and covered in just sand with nothing there. I decided to extract the original to the "levels" folder in my documents, which brought things back, except the sand is still there, the water section has only 2 levels of depth instead of the usual 5 or so, and things with height variations such as the underground offroad bit.. Does anyone know how i repair my game because it was my most used map for obvious reasons and this has upset me a lot. Thanks in advance!

You need to read more about using the editor. Specifically how to systematically replace everything in the script and alleviate the human error portion. Use notepad++ to replace the /gridmap/ with /somethingelse/ or whatever your new map name directory is going to be, and MAKE SURE to name it that, no spaces, no " ' ( [ ) ] , . anything like that.
Letters, numbers or the _ underscore is the only thing allowed. NO SPACES NONE ZIP ZERO NADA.
Delete the copy you've made from mydocuments/beamng.drive/levels (whatever you named it).
See if that fixes it. If it did, great, if not, then you must re-verify game-files. Try clearing cache as a last resort, but backup any levels you made you want to keep, first.

To put it simply you need to make the early planning steps and duplicated the map you plan to use as a base, renaming it and making the mission file [.mis] setup for it.
