So, I'm currently trying to make the vehicle parts values display, so that way, people can easily see how much parts are worth (very handy for cheap car challenges). Currently, I'm going through all the files for the Beam vehicles and adding the parts and their values to a big Google Sheets drive. However, that is a very long and tedious process (and potentially inconvenient), so I'm wondering if there is an easier way to do it.

I know that I could technically take all the official vehicles' parts files, add the values in the names, and put them into a big mod like my old Chassis/Engine Codes mod, but that could become an issue with mods (like the Picnic). If I have to do all the re-naming manually, I can, but I'd prefer to not go that route since that would mean I'd end up with a rather large and unwieldy mod. Thankfully, JBeam files are tiny in size (the largest one I've found, "wheels_F_5", is a whopping 418 KB), so that wouldn't be too much of an issue for uploading it to the server I want to upload it to.

There is a code in the vehicle editor that calculates monetary damage based on the part values, you can take a look at that

Ah, I wasn't aware of that, thanks.

But is there a way to make that display in the vehicle config menu instead of having to manually edit every file name?

EDIT: Looked at the vehicle editor pics that were posted a bit back in the update spec thread (no idea how to spawn the General Data app) and that probably wouldn't work, as it doesn't show individual part values.

EDIT 2: Figured out how to get the vehicle editor to load (Shift + F11), and I figured out an even better solution - the vehicle editor displays information about the parts, so you can easily see the values for parts that way. upload_2023-4-16_3-25-22.png

do keep in mind that while this does show an accurate sum of all the parts, in real life most cheap cars are probably more valuable as a sum of their parts than theyre sold on for working (at least here in the uk) and generally beam parts can be quite valuable

I'm fully aware of that - I could work some calculations out if necessary, but at least there's a (relatively) easy way for people to access the values of parts in-game.

That's not just in the UK and not just cheap cars, it's all cars (maybe except super and hypercars) everywhere ever since the production line was invented and they started being mass produced. It applies in BeamNG too, especially visible in the cost differences between configs, which are far less than the sum of monetary differences of individual parts. Also configs that are sold in bulk (fleet, taxi, some police package models) are FAR cheaper than the sum of their parts, especially the Grand Marshal police variant which has really expensive cop parts but the configs are not much more expensive than the respective civilian versions.
