How does one update BeamNG.drive

I purchased BeamNG.drive sometime ago (last year?) directly from BeamNG, and I'm trying to figure out
1) what version i have
2) how to update to the latest version

I've seen some threads indicating that I need to go through Steam...so I installed Steam on my machine, created an account, and tried to add BeamNG.drive as a Steam game...but being asked a code. The serial number I have from BeamNG isn't working (and guessing that Steam is looking for a Steam code assuming that I purchased BeamNG.drive from them vs. from BeamNG).

SO -- how do I update this thing?

You will have received an email in the last year with a Steam code used to activate the game on your account.
If you can't find this code contact the support team here and they'll sort you out with a code :

Thank you! I was wondering where/how to get my steam key also. I totally missed that email lol.
