How can I add cars and mods to BeamNG drive?

One of my friends has BeamNG drive and we are trying to figure out how to add new cars to the game. We downloaded a couple .zip files off of a BeamNG drive mods website, and we extracted the folders inside to the D:/BeamNG/vehicles folder. In the game, we can add the cars, but they seem suspended above the ground, and it seems like the whole game freezes up, then crashes. There is no error report or anything, the game just exits to the desktop. Anything were doing wrong?

 

First off, link your account to your game purchase so you can download mods from this forum instead of those sites. They reupload people's mods without permission and use stolen models slapped on to the jbeams of official vehicles in the game. After you've done that, read this: Installing_Content

Thanks for commenting. I went to that Installing Content page on the wiki and I don't seem to have a "mods" folder...

 

Why isn't the option to download all these cars, tracks and mods integrated into the game?
Or at least as some DLC through steam or something?
Everyone screams "THEFT - STOLEN - RIPPED OFF - ILLEGAL" but to tell you the truth,
I haven't got a clue what's legit and what isn't, and not going to spend waste-less hours figuring out if one car is or isn't.
Not only that, but its a pain trying to figure out what works or crashes the game.
Oh, and trying to find that add-ons that WORK(Hours wasted on that too)

Solve the issue, integrate DLC through the game and all will be happy.
