Here is an excerpt from a Gamespot review of Sega GT 2002 for Xbox (the original): "Because Sega GT 2002 is constantly forcing you to dump money into your car, you'll develop a sense of ownership to it, especially since you won't be able to afford dozens of cars at once like you can in Gran Turismo 3. Instead, you'll find yourself treating each car that comes into your possession--no matter the make or model--with a sense of pride. And when it comes time to part with your pride and joy, you can set your own selling price that you feel is reflective of the hard work and upgrades that you've poured into it. As long as your price is reasonable, you'll eventually be able to find a buyer. You can also choose to sell to a dealer for a faster transaction, though there's no negotiating the price there. Sega GT 2002 has a certain personal touch not found in other racing games, and this personal touch is emphasized in the game's garage mode, which not surprisingly, is an actual garage. You can admire your cars here, sure, but you can also examine all the awards and trophies you've won, take a look at posters of your car that you create using the replay editor, or check on any car that you might have on sale on your driveway. You can even buy trivial items like guitars or potted plants to freshen up the garage's appearance, if you like." (Full article can be read HERE) ((Still not a bad game 12 years later, I should dig it up lol)) First of all, I had spent hundreds of hours playing this game on the Original Xbox (Xbox 1 perhaps? ) I really got into the immersion of the game, where exhausts would fall off, or turbos would sieze, money was tight, and repairs were costly. Also, the part about the garage, is something I feel may be very interesting to implement. It appears as though, mentioned numerous times in this forum, that we will: a) Be owners of the same car for a while b) Have a car that has previous "stored" damage (either self inflicted, or bought used in such condition) c) Have missions, races, and derbies, which all usually reward the "winner" or "employee" with cash, trophies, or some other incentive, etc d) Have some sort of economy, such as buying, selling and maybe pink-slip/trading cars, etc I think the customizable garage is something that should be relatively easy to model and implement (nothing has to be jbeamed) and would just add a bit of realism to the game, since I have not really heard anything so far about how the game will "save" or how the career mode will really be maintained...Do we just spawn outside of the same gas station parking lot, like in one of the early official game-play videos where they mention the career mode, with the car damage and everything already on the car? Or wouldn't it be sweet to have your car in a garage at your "house" and you can fix it up in there, have your trophies and maybe even a stash of cash or something? I don't know, I think that would be a pretty cool idea, instead of just magically spawning and having all your essential career mediums (currency, car, tools even?) in a GUI/HUD. All the modelling can be pretty basic, and everything in the garage can be modded and customized by people in the community...We could even have a "post your in-game garage" thread. How cool would it be to even try and recreate your ACTUAL garage?? (as close as possible anyway) Another idea could be on this forum, a separate sub-forum FOR the Marketplace, where you basically start a thread with a Price and Pics/Info (probably a standard format "For Sale Thread") of a car that you currently own. You can still drive it while it is On Sale, but would have to (I guess) Pack the car into a .zip and Email (or whatever) to the highest bidder. Almost like the way the Forza marketplace works. That would be another rather simple thing to implement, we would just have to figure out a way to "secure" the marketplace and keep players in check, so as not to get rid of their car but keep a copy, also figure out how to transfer money, etc etc etc. I was sleeping last night and for some reason dreamed that all of this was already in beamNG...What do you guys think? This is not a super serious "I WANT NAU" suggestion thread, but more of a start to a discussion about how some of the actual gameplay can be enhanced in the future...almost like a template. Id rather have more of a sense of ownership of the car/save-game, then the same old spawn point or even worse, a menu screen which houses all of this information...It's kind of hard to word all of this since I just got to work and haven't eaten breakfast yet. But I hope this makes sense lol
I have not played that game. Some ideas sound interesting maybe in one of the career mode on hardcore or something. I hope there is a lot of different racing modes as there are some things I like and some things I dont like. I dont like stupid challenges ( there may be some I like and some I dont) or stupid stunt compatitions. However, I realize some losers (kidding) like these things. So choice is key. The main reason I like this game is the modding possibilites.
Modding possibilities are endless, which is a great thing. Check out some game play footage, although a lot of the youtube videos showcase the actual racing, there is one video that shows some of the garage use...My suggestion is basically some sort of garage or "map" that you start out in (maybe even the "photo studio" map that is on this forum) and from there can select the map you wish to drive on. The garage basically contains the car(s) you own, showing the current state of the vehicle (damaged, or brand new etc) and within the garage, there are tools or a sub-menu that allows you to see which parts (or "break groups"/beams) that are broken, and can CHOOSE which ones you want fix. Like, my front lower control arm is broken, rendering my FWD Covet almost un-driveable, so I want to fix that, but the bumper is not attached on one corner so I'll just leave that alone till I have the extra cash to fix it. And the garage modding can be things like the screenshots (that are already saved in the main game directory anyway) that you select, and the game puts it in a frame and you can move that picture around and place it somewhere on the wall (similar feature in Sega GT 2002 as well), add/remove elements, like tool boxes (can be simple cubes with texture, can also be more graphically intensive, but you get my drift) . There are tons of modding possibilities and this seems like something that can be relatively easy to create, although actually having the game "save" and all the coding behind it all obviously has to be figure out. I feel like it is entirely possible however. Edit here is the video game play footage that shows how the garage looks (and it is even more in depth than this but this shows the actual garage and how the car sits etc). Skip to 7:45 and you will see the player using the garage to fix parts etc. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9-7mcwX7p-4
Yeah, I think alot that presentation stuff will happen. That is all frosting on the cake. The modders will probably beat the devs to some of that stuff. I missed out on that game as I wasnt into game then. If it has cockpit and hood view, and supported my wheel, I would probably like it. I am trying to learn how to mod some myself, I wish I could quit my stupid job and learn it proberly. Between work, wife, kids, dogs and cats, I am lucky to get 5 or 6 hours on my computer a week period.
haha well don't quit your job, unless you turn into an INSANE modder and are actaully able to get a piece of the dev's money-pie, stick to your day job and I guess lets wait till the game progresses further...IMO, the whole physics engine and actual gameplay are only about 50% COMPLETE, in that the game can be packaged and sold as a complete game. Theres a lot of work to be done and I understand that, just want to plant the seed in people's head (maybe a dev too ) that this would be a pretty awesome idea to at least think about moving forward. The GUI and such is pretty nice now that it is HTML etc, so I don't see why this should be a hard thing to develop.
Oh dear lord, I used to spend days on end playing this game, what a classic this was. Another game I liked which was on Playstation 2 was Tokyo Extreme Racing 3. So many classics that we have taken for granted really...
I played the SHIT out of Tokyo extreme racing : zero...not sure if the same as that or not. In the back cover of the game manual that came in the CD case, was a movie poster for the First Fast and Furious movie. - - - Updated - - - http://www.beamng.com/threads/8489-Old-School-Games?highlight=school I started this thread a few weeks ago, and in it, I mention this game and a bunch of other games...talk about classics lol check it out lololol brings back lots of memories.
Wow, that would be absolutely fantastic in BeamNG.drive, I love customization in games, but I hate it when it's forced And if had employees I would imagine that it would be similar to game dev tycoon, where you can search for mechanics, painters, and other stuff like that Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I dunno about all of that, the game is going to focused on "Drive"-ing, not hiring or work...however the garage idea should/would be completely customizable (within reason)...Like I said earlier, maybe a separate sub-forum where people could post their Blender or Sketchup models of simple garages, then I am sure that people will spend 3 months on a model and release it and it would be extremely well made and detailed. I think this would be pretty cool to have. s
