Remastered in v0.35. The makeover comes with a bunch of features, including a Flat-4 drivetrain, a wide variety of both factory and custom configurations, and, finally, that wagon body everyone’s been craving for.

The vehicle model has now been revised with increased detail and all-new textures. And to top that off, the lineup also offers a good deal of new customization options, including body kits, interiors, as well as striking new liveries.

you can read more about it in the changelog for 0.35 :) https://www.beamng.com/game/news/patch/beamng-drive-v0-35/

For anyone curious, the remastered Sunburst is called "sunburst2" in the files so it doesn't conflict with the legacy one.

i really REALLY hope the sunburst gets a future update to address some of these new 'proportions'.

Comparison with the old NinetyNine's wagon mod.

This was a great, very much needed remaster for this car, but I hope the wagon gets some improvements.

Call me weird, but I don't actually mind it. I personally like it better than the previous mods that added one.

I tried to post this in 0.35 discussion like an hour ago, but for some reason it got flagged and is "awaiting approval by moderators"

Is it just me, or is the car too weak? I feel like a 20 km/h rear impact shouldn't buckle the roof above the rear doors, especially on a car this modern.
    screenshot_2025-04-02_14-21-38.png screenshot_2025-04-02_14-21-49.png

I also noticed in typical front-end crashes (similar to real-world crash tests) the force of the impact isn't really absorbed by the front of the car, and instead goes straight to the passenger compartment, see how the roof buckles above the doors and kind of dips down in the middle? The rear door frame is also deformed to the point where the door doesn't close anymore, the entire door doesn't line up with the unibody anymore. If you compare this to real-world crash performance of a car in the same class, in the same type of impact at the same speed (even a car that performed poorly in the same impact) you'll see a big difference in the absorption and transfer of crash forces throughout the car.
    screenshot_2025-04-02_14-39-31.png screenshot_2025-04-02_14-42-17.png image.png

That's not the kind of crash performance you'd see on any real car in this type of accident. I'm not typically the type to bash on stuff in this game but I'm genuinely disappointed by this, especially in a simulation that focuses so much on soft-body physics and is essentially known for its "realistic" deformation.

The legacy Sunburst conflicts with the new one (doors, wheels, fenders, quarter panels, etc...). Is it probably because I have the KLJP mod or am I wrong?

to be expected, mod authors need to update their mods. we have specifically renamed sunburst to sunburst2 to try to reduce mod conflicts

If I had to guess, KJLP might've named their mod sunburst2, which might be what is causing the conflict.

I thought that too don't get me wrong the model is beautiful but it seems like the jbeam was not really altered that much especially the crumple zone effectiveness it still basically crashes like before the clipping issues are still there the janky downwards thrill of the front structure in most impacts and so on it feels like the whole structure is too weak and kind of janky its like 2014 beam physics but in 8k

All of the Sunburst's engines idle around 900 RPM, which is too high for normal idle. Subaru (and most other) engines idle at closer to 700 RPM normally.
