I'm looking to buy a new laptop for games and I'm stuck between something a bit older with a 7-8th gen i7 CPU but a powerful GTX 1070-1080 Mobile GPU, or something with a i7 11th gen (or ryzen 7 5800h) with a RTX 3050 or 3060, the 1070 and 1080 are apparently better than both of the mobile RTX GPUs but I'm scared that the CPUs might not be powerful enough to run games like Beamng and CPU intensive games, which one do you recommend??
highly depends on tdp limit of cpu and gpu for both. good to know if theres like benchmark score to understand/gauge performance thereof (e.g. 3dmark timespy)
Do you think there are any benchmarks that resemble something closer to running Beamng? Since there aren't that many videos for those specific powered laptops running beamng and CPU heavy games and most of the ones that i could find were just light work...
Beam definitely likes raw CPU power and with many threads, traffic will be a lot better. I just threw together some CPUs in this comparison, should be sufficient to get a rough idea https://www.cpubenchmark.net/compar...-7-5800H-vs-Intel-i7-8750H-vs-Intel-i7-12700H
The answer is a hard no. beamng focuses on clock-speed, multi-threaded/single thread limited to a single vehicle. DX11 is single threaded, thats when Vulkan was supposed to take over as the main api for lower headroom and multithreading support. 8gb or more vram and more than 16gb ram required to run traffic.* side issues like Nvidia/AMD GPU driver overhead affects fps when cpu bound. AMD and Intel cpu performs vastly differently, and performance will differ. Your mileage may vary.
thanks a bunch! seems like the 7 5800h and i7 12700h should cut it then, appreciate the help. --- Post updated --- oh, shouldn't be much of a problem other than VRAM then, thanks for the help.
How well will it run with a 12 GB Vram RTX 3060 TI from MSI? I have a Ryzen 5 5600 G and still get 30 ish fps on high, with 2 GB vram Vega 6 and 16 GB ram.
