    Gambler523's Story:
    An abandoned industrial estate near Firwood has left a lot of garbage and debris and its polluting the environment. With the owners having ignored all environmental regulation and refusing to take responsibility for their actions it's now up to us to help restore the forest and its precious habitats. Johnson Valley Garage has made their way to the east coast for a few races. While they're here, they are also sponsoring a Gambler500 event to help get the cleanup underway. Join in to clean the area and have some fun at the local offroad park while you're at it.

    This story takes place just outside Firwood over a weekend long Gambler500 event. You will need to arrive at your campsite with your camper and then help inform the local residents and fire department about the event. Once you've done that, its time to pick up as much trash as possible to clean up the forest. Not only do you have to pick the trash up, you will also have to take all that trash to the collection area so it can be disposed of properly. During the weekend you will also take part in a couple races around the local tracks so everyone can show off their latest creations. Once the event is over you can hook up your camper and leave, or stick around for a while to help the locals with a few jobs and try your luck on the race tracks. Although once the event is over, don't expect your Gambler vehicle to keep pace, you'll need to break out some proper horsepower. Some of the post story missions include things like taking a supercar down the highway, racing around the trails in a rock bouncer, collecting and delivering some lumber, putting on a mountaintop cannon show, and volunteering your driving skills at the local fire department.


    How to play the story:

    If you want to play the story as intended; use the default spawn point and please do not freeroam or play any non-story scenarios until after you finish the story. The campground serves as the story's mission hub. From the default spawn (Campground) head to the campsite nearest to you and start the first mission. Once a mission is completed select Continue At Challenge Start (or QuickTravel if needed) then proceed to the next campsite. All story scenarios are named Story 01 - MissionName, Story 02 - MissionName, etc, so it will be easy to follow along. Some missions have multiple versions to provide alternate difficulties or an option to do the full length scenario or one that's a bit shorter. Choose to complete one from each campsite - or try them all. Enjoy!

    Map Discussion:
    As with all discussion threads; feel free to let me know any feedback you have or report any issues. While I'm not looking to make any more big changes to this map and I am not really looking for suggestions, I am still open to them.

    Every scenario was completed at least once or twice (if not more) and all times and goals are achievable. I would say almost every scenario is easy to medium difficultly with expectation to a few Gold\Bonus Star times and especially the Trash Removal scenarios. Because of that I made 6 different versions of the Trash Removal mission, so if one seems too difficult there will at least be one alternate version that should be much easier. Having said all that, please let me know what you think about any of the scenarios and their goals\times.

    I hope you enjoy the map and the story. Let me know what you think.

    0.29 content and update preview:
    After getting to actually play my map instead of just making it and only doing quick tests, and also after playing the 0.29 content; I have plenty of new ideas and changes I want to make in addition to the few I already had planned. I will update the first post when the contest is over with a revamped map features list and add an upcoming features\changes list. Until then here is a preview of what to expect:

    A decent overhaul of the trails. I want to smooth out most of them and make a select few of them more difficult. Some trails will feature rocks, mud\water, and a bit of sandy\loose dirt in a few areas. I do plan on at least one path for a fast rally stage, but this map was designed to be an offroad trail map and not a rally map.

    I will 100% add in the new Trash Grab mission type and all new Gambler500 vehicles. After playing 0.29 and seeing what it offers I have plenty of new ideas for even more scenarios, on top of what I already had planned. I now have a total of nearly 20 new scenarios that I want to add. There will also be a few fixes and changes for some existing missions, especially the Trash Removal (trailer of trash) missions. After this map was released (and after 0.29) I learned quite a bit more on how to align props in trailers - so expect the Trash Removal missions to be much better. Trail smoothing will also make those mission much much easier.

    Also I will do a bit of tree thinning in spots to make seeing distant collection markers (light pillars) a bit easier. As well as an alternate version of the collection missions to give you the option of during the full length mission or doing a shorter alt version for those who dont like 15-20+ minute long missions. I do have a couple map feature additions, but those will be included when I update the first post. So check back soon.

    I am excited for my new trash pickup and trash removal missions (coming soon). The currently included missions were made using the outdated vehicles.prefab format and by copying vanilla missions for the prop placement. After studying 0.29 I almost instantly figured out how to make custom prefabs exactly how I want them using the new vehicles.prefab.json formatting, which is much easier to use and can easily be done within the world editor. After figuring that out, and with the addition of some awesome new props in 0.29, there will be some unique and much more fun trash missions.

    Here is a quick proof of concept test I made with the new json method:

    I had a couple reports of the scenarios not working but it seems to have been an oversight in some cases or in others cases may have been a problem when people updated to 0.29 and kept old\broken userdata files\mods. All people that have responded to me after asking questions about the scenarios not working seem to have the problem resolved without needing an update to the map. All issues where on the users side and were not caused by this mods files. So as far as I can tell, there are no current issues with the scenarios.

    Either way, if any issues come up with broken scenarios on this map then please let me know.

    I have just uploaded v1.1 to the repo, so you should see it show up soon.

    I am aware that some people are experiencing issues with the scenarios not showing up. If anyone can provide any detailed information about it please do so on this thread. I am not too sure on how to go about fixing this as I have a couple test systems at home as well as a couple friends that tested for me, all of which have downloaded the v1.0 map from the repo. All of them had no issues with scenarios. I'm not entirely sure what is causing this to happen for some, since my own tests as well as more than half the reviews and reports of people playing the map all have working scenarios. It could very possibly be my map or its files, but its also possible to be caused by the users system, game settings, or conflicting other mods. Since my own tests, the test of trusted others, and with placing second in the Gambler 500 modding contest - which noted the Gambler scenarios - I am at a loss for what the issue could be.

    Hopefully with version 1.1 that problem will be fixed for those experiencing it. I have also updated many in-game mission preview pictures so clearing cache is required for them to show up properly - this may also help with anyone having issues with the scenarios.

    ~!~EDIT after a few more changes to the map~!~

    Still several more days before I'm ready to upload to the repo, maybe a week. There will be a MASSIVE terrain overhaul and there will be close to 30 new Rock Bouncer time trial scenarios. I am aiming for a solid 100 scenarios on this map. I have also done a bit more smoothing on quite a few of the original trails, especially ones that the story missions use, so they will be much less annoying for stock cars or the gambler 500 vehicles. I have also done a bit of tuning on the terrain (not trails) to make flat parts not as flat and also added sides to some of the trails\hills so you aren't as likely to slide off.

    This update will be almost entirely focused on the Rock Bouncer and nearly every big change uses that vehicle as a benchmark. Below is a preview highlighting the new trails. Besides smoothing and a bit of tuning, the original trails will remain unchanged and will be accessible by most vehicles. The new trails highlighted below will be much more extreme and will require 4x4, difflocks, and big horsepower. Some will be climbable by the average crawler but MOST will need something as capable as the Rock Bouncer.

    !!!~~The next update will be listed as VERSION 2.0~~!!!

    I was planning to be done early this week, but I kept going and going and adding more and more. So still a soon-ish, but not quite yet, release date. This update will have so many changes and additions to the map that it feels and looks like a something brand new, so calling it version 1.2 wasn't going to do it justice. Below is a list of what's coming with version 2.0 as well as a couple quick preview pictures. Most of these (90%) will be in version 2.0, a couple however might get pushed to version 2.1

    Best guess is a week out for the next update. I just finished all the new trails and added in two new race tracks. The track on the top left of the map still needs some work. Then I have to also add in quite a few scenarios still. I am also working on the decalroad textures to make it clear which roads are regular flat roads that any vehicle can handle and which are the more extreme offroad trails. This way if you are in a regular car you dont turn down a path and need to turn around right away or end up getting stuck. I have also decided to include an Unlimited N20 Bottle part for the Rock Bouncer - since most scenarios you run out with a lot of the course left. Also its just a blast to freeroam with the bouncer with unlimited nitrous. Lastly the new mountain top runway jump now has 3 lanes, one standard and two with a booster\launcher to get some more distance or height. Also the track closeup picture is a preview (copy) of a track from my WIP map Slippery Slope

    Some of the WIP\Finished new scenarios include: 40+ new Rock Bouncer TimeTrials, several new rally TimeTrials, new race tracks with TimeTrials, TargetJumps, new sawmill Deliveries, and several new Fire and Rescue - 6x6 Stambecco missions (crashed vehicles, ambulance, and vehicle recoveries)

    Ideas I have, but might not make include: rockslide hillclimb (path with random falling rocks to avoid), endurance missions (gambler vehicle with destructive objects on path) mud bog\log crawl missions, and lastly Wydra missions (currently the Wydra river mission has been deleted)

    Still a bit longer for the update, I want to just finish this map and move on. So I am trying to pack in everything I wanted to change\add into one last big update. The longest part is playing every single mission to get some times for the stars\goals, which also helps with problem areas (big bumps, trees, ect). As of now there is currently 60 NEW scenarios (128 total scenarios) and I still have about 10 more to finish. Here is a list of what's currently finished, followed by some preview pictures.

    I just hit 180 total scenarios!!
    I finished smoothing the original trails in all the places that needed it. I finished the new race tracks, rally stages, as well as all the terrain changes. I still have a handful of scenarios that need finishing, then I can do a cleaning pass and final playthrough. After that I will finally be releasing version 2.0 and moving on to finish my other map, Slippery Slope.

    I feel there will be quite a few cool scenarios that will be unique, for example: target jumps where you get points for hitting\landing on props and vehicles, land on a camper - get points, smash through a porta potty - get points. Drift missions where you need to stay inside a cone barrier. And a mountain climb where you need to fight your way up while boulders will be raining down on you as well as blocking the trails.






    Pictures with the cones are screenshots from the actual scenario that you can play. The cones are not just placed down for the picture - once you start the scenario the cones automatically load in for you. There will be several variations of this, such as practice mode with cone collisions disabled, a version using the actual cone props you can hit and move, version with brickwalls props, as well as versions with lower prop numbers for those with lower end systems.

    ~~TL;DR in BOLD~~

    With BeamNG 0.30 out now there will be some additional time to finish Gambler523 v2.0

    I want to add in more missions using the new vehicle and trailers! So my current goal (and what I am setting as my personal limit so I don't keep going forever) is 200 total scenarios!!! Also I will be adjusting the current missions to make sure they all allow the new recovery options and be sure they all work properly. There seems to be quite a few changes to mission creation, like additional camera pathing options for intro\outro\ect - I will probably utilize that for story missions only.

    As of right now v1.1 of this map both gas stations are broken since BeamNG 0.30 changed how the gas station system. Instead of a basic "garages" system, it now requires using the new "facilities" system as well as creating objects within the map (which the old system didn't require) Although, I already have the gas stations working again for version 2.0 and in addition the lone electric charging station at the offroad world parking lot now works as an actual electric vehicle charger!!

    There also seems to be some changes to how steep terrain textures are placed at a game engine level. So all the rock textures in v1.1 are all skewed at the wrong angle and the cliffs will all look a bit off. I am trying to figure this out, but I spent most of my time today getting gas stations working again, so hopefully the next few days I can get the cliff\rock textures fixed or replaced as needed.

    Either way, besides those couple of issues, 95% of my current scenarios are fully finished and tested\timed. I have about 10-15 more scenarios that I now want to add due to the new 0.30 content. Those will probably add a couple new story missions as well. So all that's left is finishing the remaining scenarios (a majority of which have most of the ground work laid out) and then I need to figure out the cliff\rock texture issue then version 2.0 will hit the repo.

    Version 2.1 was just submitted to the REPO. (expect it to be live in the next few days) This is a very small hotfix update that removed an unused floating bridge as well as a fix for a few scenarios which had depreciated mission stars.

    I took a couple month hiatus from working on BeamNG mods and after coming back I want to just move forward with new projects. So this will be the final update for this map. Although, please report any issues\bugs that you find as I will be happy to fix them and make an update for anything major. I also plan to check this map with any new BeamNG game version updates to ensure all textures still work or that nothing else is broken.

    i would like to see navigation to be added, because without that it gets very difficult to search for the location.

    All trails\roads do have AI enabled so SatNav does work properly while in FreeRoam if you click a spot on the map. I also added a SatNav on the dash of most vehicles during the scenarios that you can see the map while driving to help a bit.

    Although, the problem is there are so many trails that having navigation enabled during a scenario is that it will always use the fastest routes - which unfortunately is almost always one of the steep hillclimb trails that most vehicles cant handle. It worked well for Version 1.0 of the map, but after 2.0 I added so many hillclimb trails that it wasnt worth having navigation enabled since you constantly have to backtrack if you follow the navigation.

    I have stopped development of this map to move on to my next one, but I did originally want to make the easy flat roads one texture\decal\tiretrack and the extreme hill climbs another texture to make the main roads between all POIs easier to follow. For now I dont plan to do that, but after I get my next map on the REPO I may eventually go back to this map and make it clearer on which path is flat and which are hillclimbs.

    Either way, thank you for the input, I still hope you enjoy my map otherwise.

    This map will be getting an update within the next couple weeks. As of 0.31 a few things need to be fixed:
    • A couple buildings in the Industrial Park were replaced by new 0.31 assets that have the exact same name. As of this post it is already permanently fixed. Most assets in this map are referencing other maps assets and dont include the actual asset files. For the broken buildings I have now included the files needed to be standalone and work regardless of other maps asset files.
    • Due to the massive changes the mission system received in 0.31 some missions no longer work properly. For instance Target Jump mission no longer work at all - including any in the vanilla game. I am trying different methods to fix, but since its not working on vanilla missions either, it may not be something I can fix.
    • On the positive side of mission changes - the Knock Away missions seem to be much more responsive. The Drift Cone Knock Away mission for instance used to not pick up some cones, but now seem to give points much more consistently.
    • Lastly I have not tested all mission types yet - so over the next couple weeks I intend to check that each mission type in this map still works as intended and if not do my best to fix, replace, or if needed - remove any broken mission.
