My GPU is the weak link in my PC, according to numerous benchmarks, games and, well, the Beam community. I plan to upgrade it this way: Step 1: Sell GTX 1050 (only 4 months old): +100$ Step 2: Buy 550 Watt PSU: (https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-Warrant...&qid=1549329878&sr=1-10&keywords=500+watt+psu) -40$ Step 3: Sell 400 Watt PSU: 25$ Step 4: Buy PowerColor RX 570 4GB: -130$ Step 5 Buy 4GB Extra RAM: -25$ Is this a good plan? If not what should I change? I don't want to spend more than 75 dollars on upgrades (factoring in the money i get from selling parts) I swear I'll stop posting crap in Computer Hardware now...
Buy used 1060 instead, you don't need to swap PSU then, not sure if you need to swap PSU even for that AMD card, you have i3-6100, power consumption of that CPU is non existent, you can put even gtx1080 on your system that has 400W PSU because with i7-6700 my tower did not get much past 300W power consumption and your i3 is something like 30-40W less, so doubt very much that you will need over 300W.
Cheap PSU is cheap PSU, you can't get reliable thing that you can trust on lower end of price range, worst thing with PSU is that often protection is where they cut costs. It might be new, but other than that, I'm not sure it is worth the extra cost.
With your budget, probably nothing, just upgrade GPU, give half of your current GPU to your brother, so he can pay half of it and gets half as a gift, then get faster GPU for yourself.
I don't know if my PSU can support the 570, as it is not a good brand, it is just one that came with the case.
