FATAL ERROR unable todownload file: version.txt

Hi!

I have a 4-5 year old version of BeamNG installed on a drive from a previous PC.
The game wouldn't run so I tried to run the installer (dated 09/2013).

It seems to install the game but when it starts to update I get the same error as when trying to run the game:

FATAL ERROR unable to download file: version.txt
Couldn't connect to server

Any suggestions?

That version is too old. That updater method is not used since the game moved to Steam.
If you purchased the game before the Steam days, and have not received a new key to redeem the game, check this:

Damn son! where did ya find this? Fastspring BeamNG is ancient use the Steam version it has Way way way more content (Buses and bus routes,more Maps and Vehicles, and a bigger mod community.

I found the Steam key and it works fine now!
