    Hey.

Just bought this game, used to play the tech demo before my old rig bit the dust.

So, error message I get goes something like:
"Failed to initialize direct3d! Make sure you have DirectX 9 installed, and are running a graphics card that supports Pixel Shader 1.1 "
Please find a copy of the error attached.

    Cool story, eh?

So, I've searched through the forum (here and on steam) to no avail.

    Steps I have taken:
    - Validated Steam install files
    - Re-installed video driver
    - Updated DirectX
    - Installed DirectX9
    - Attempted to run as administrator
    - Attempted to run in compatibility mode (windows xp, SP3)

Yes I understand I need directx 9 installed.

Yes I understand that directx 11 is not directx 9 compatible. (Seems to be the common answer to this error)

I have my tv which is the only monitor which I'm trying to hook up to.
This seems to be another common point with those who have this issue. The typical solution would be to find prefs.cs and either delete the file or manually edit it to render the game at the correct resolution.

However since I've been unable to successfully start this game yet, this file has yet to be created. Essentially, that won't work for me.

I've also attempted to run the DXSetup within the path:
    Steam\SteamApps\common\BeamNG.drive\_CommonRedist\DirectX\Jun2010
    to no avail.
However, it actually installed files this time, where all the other links to the DirectX run time has just detected I already had DirectX 9.0c installed and stopped there.

So, now I'm left scratching my head and frustrated. I shall leave some of my tech specs below:

    Windows 7 64 bit
Nvidia Geforce 8800 GT (only 512 MB)
    i7 4790k
    8GB of RAM

Hopefully someone here will be able to help me out with this...

    Update:

A reset was all the computer needed.

    >_<

Well, that has been solved now.

Hopefully this long tirade will help others if they have the same error.
