So for the longest time the rear suspension of the K-Series has the tendency to toe-out on acceleration and toe'ing-in on deceleration/braking. While this is absolutely fine cruising around and sometimes doing a little skid when nobody's watching, a few probems hower arise when you start using the car on track, especially in RWD configuration! First one on my list of complaints is the car starts to oversteer as soon as you touch the throttle, this is all fun and exciting but not particularly fast, you can combat this by lowering the diff accel by a lot and toe'ing in the rear wheels by a lot. It doesn't fix it completely, but it helps... a lot. Here's where the second issue arises, thanks to these two changes the car absolutely refuses to turn in off throttle. Even when you increase the front tyre width to match the rears it will still understeer especially in the slower turns only to still instantly kick out the rear as soon as you roll onto the throttle. This quirk with the rear suspension has been there for many years and I had high hopes that it would be changed in the recent remaster but unfortunately it stayed the same. This is why I hereby present to you my mod. I've moved a few nodes and beams around so that the rear wheels toe-in some on acceleration and slightly toe out on braking. This resolves the issue of the rear end breaking out when breathing on the accelerator, makes me able to stiffen up the rear diff so I don't lay down a massive one tyre fire, and it makes it accelerate better and easier out of the turns. Furthermore it actually turns in now and rotates mid corner when you let off the throttle. It's not yet perfect, I still want to do something about the excessive squatting, the camber change on suspension travel might be slightly excessive and there's a small vibration sometimes on acceleration I might try and iron out. The mod comes with 2 configurations with both of them having stock suspension and my kinematics. You may find that stock vehicles start to become understeery or hard to drift when equipped with my kinematics. I have not yet tested AWD configurations or full race configurations yet! I may or may not add some more track driving inspired parts for this car. Please let me know what you think.
I did some more work on the rear suspension: earlier on I added 2 beams that linked the bottom 2 control arms together to make the suspension work better with that geometry. It wasn't 100% to my liking and also wasn't all that realistic so I removed those beams again and changed the kinematics once again. I also dialed in a little bit of anti-squat and mate dit a little less prone to shaking. Now the car reacts nice and sharply to inputs on entry and is really grippy coming out of the turns! Furthermore I added a (functional) custom wing, small front splitter and a half-cage and dubbed it the GTS, similar like my all time favourite car in real life, the BMW M3 GTS. The cage is a little janky as I'm still quite rusty when it comes to modeling. More to come soon .
Did some more tweaking: Removed all configurations excep these two: HSE and HSE with trackpack, both feature: -Custom rear suspension kinematics. -Custom tuned front and rear springs, shocks and anti-rollbar. -Roughly 300hp N/A. -RWD Track pack adds: -GTS style rear wing. -Slightly bigger front splitter. -Wider front tyres. -Slightly stiffer front anti-rollbar. Newly adjusted kinematics makes the K-Series way more predictable on throttle than with the stock suspension, as by default the rear wheels toe out on throttle. This combined with the overly stiff front suspension setup made the car very understeery when off throttle. Now the car pivots under trailbraking and when coasting and is more stable under acceleration mid corner, it acts like a real rear wheel driven car now. Driven with controller. To do: -Make new rear springs and maybe shocks tailored to the adjusted kinematics. -Potentially make new configurations of all cars including the newly adjusted kinematics. -Fix halfcage -Remake GTS version
this looks lovely, i like the inspiration from the m3 gts i suggest to make sure that the mod doesn't conflict with anything so you can release it on the repo
Thanks! It doesn't conflict with anything, at least it shouldn't. They are standalone parts that can be added to the K-series .
Been working on my blender skills for a few days, and made new wheels. I don't think they are half bad for my first try at wheels in blender. Unlucky for me I modeled these in BMW boltpattern 5x120 and the ETK is like 5x100, any suggestions on what the best way is to fix this?
these look pretty good, what size are these? from the looks im guessing 19" sorry i'm not a modeler and have no experience with this, but you could try scaling the size down a bit and maybe using 18" tires instead, and in my opinion the k series looks better with 18" wheels
Thanks! They are 19" indeed, so far I have made 19x9, 19x10 and 19x11, and I'm thinking about doing 18x8,9,10 and 17x8,9,10 as well!
-Added 18x9, 18x10 and 18x11 rims. Wheelface is the same, made the barrell smaller. -Added Sport pls 2R tyres for all the 18" rims. -Added black and silver variants -More tuning. Little bit more cleaning up and I'll drop the file here.
I have forgotten to release this... Adjusted rear geometry once again; -Now with more antisquat. -Even more stable rear end than previous versions. -Comes with BBS E88 in 18x9, 18x10, 18x11, 19x9, 19x10 and 19x11. -New, more realistic textures. -All wheels come with Sport Plus 2R tyres.
