After playing around with the Airfield Showdown scenario, I really want to see a drag racing mode in BeamNG. I think BeamNG is a great platform for drag racing. Tire and chassis flex are big factors in drag racing and BeamNG attempts to realistically model these effects. Also, 2 cars going down a 1/4 mile drag strip won't overload the game too badly in comparison to 20 cars racing around Hirochi Speedway.

Some features that would need to be included:

    • Tire heat modeling
    • Burnouts to heat up tires
    • "Christmas tree" including staging lights. This would include functions that would calculate reaction time and determine if a driver left too early (red light)
    • Parachutes for faster cars
    • A drag strip track
    • More drag cars.
    • Roll cages and more configuration options added to current drag cars

    Its been requested many times.

Well anyways I would love to see a sort of "drag" mode of some sorts, (maybe when campaign is released?) just think of it with beams physics and features it would be the ultimate candidate for a drag race game/mode etc etc.

Currently we don't have a up to date "proper" drag racing game on PC (except for some older NHRA games)

We do have forza (xbox) which is not even close to being realistic and NFS is sort of realistic with (pre tire heating) but I wouldn't call it drag racing IMO I would call it street racing..

Right now I just go on rock falls drag map and pretend LOL.

    • Tire heat modeling
    • Burnouts to heat up tires
    • "Christmas tree" including staging lights. This would include functions that would calculate reaction time and determine if a driver left too early (red light)
    • Parachutes for faster cars
    • Roll cages
    Taking your features list

We could even leave out tire heating/burnouts etc and just do a Christmas tree and I would be more than happy.

IMO tire heating is an important part of all racing so it shouldn't be left out, and I find it kind of funny that you consider the new NFS more realistic than forza... not saying you are entirely wrong but I just find it a bit amusing.

Drag racing has always been deeply rooted in American car culture. it would be a shame if it wasn't included in some capacity.
I think that acurate timing is going to be the biggest problem.

By realistic I meant (tire heating) other than that Forza is the closest you get, by leaving tire heating out I meant, (if the devs wanted to add a drag mode, a simple pre stage and "lights drop" kind of concept would be fine with me as it does take coding to extra work to add in extra features.)

Yes it would still not be "proper" but, it would be the closest thing to the real deal.

Thank you for the responses! I'm still curious to see this roadmap blog update that was teased a couple weeks ago. I want to see exactly where the dev team plan on taking BeamNG. It would be a shame to not implement some real racing modes into the game. I think that bringing realistic racing along with the incredible soft body physics of BeamNG would be awesome. You'd have to race without bouncing off of walls or other cars and truly take care of your car throughout the race. L

Like I said above, I think drag racing would be a good place to start. Only two cars and a relatively small track. Maybe we can get some of the modders to work on this as well.

Thermal calculation is still being worked on, hopefully it will soon move to brakes and wheels to get a more accurate representation of tyres and grip etc.

I'm definitely looking forward to that as well. They need some better high performance racing slicks. I drove the 200BX race version around Indianapolis and couldn't turn through the corners at 120 MPH. I'd also love to see tires blow out from excessive wear as well.
