Hello ! I just want to present to you the famous Culumbo, the car I love so much If you know me, you know it's the Peugeit 403 The First Peugeot 403 was aproduct around 1954, this car was mostly done for compete with the famous Ds , with the good little engine 8Cv (57 real cv) in 1,4l the all in RWD this is one of the most releable engine you could find ! This design is sign Pininfarina, like the 404, and other Peugeot. In 1960 an Estate version, and a pick-up version coming out, And the famous convertible : After that , a smaller motors has been product, A simple 7 cv take from the Peugeot 203 And this model has a more simple calender : You can found some model with a Diesel motors, the Peugeot 403 has been the first French car to have a diesel motors, and she her who is democratized the diesel in france ! (But this motor was really, REALLY crapy (...).) The peugeot 403 was product until 1966, And around1 200 000 model has been product, it was was one of the best success from Peugeot ! this car a Today, you can easely found all sedan/pick-up/Estate for restoration for less than 1000€, but the covertible model can reach the price of 70 000 € ! Very rare model ! So here the little history of this beautiful car C:
This is a nice car but as a citroen fanboy I find it hard that any peugeot could compete against the DS ;p
The DS was definitely controversial appearance wise, but it introduced technology that was easily decades ahead of its time. Not to mention that hydropneumatic suspension made it the most comfortable car in the world, at the time (and maybe even today)
Hey, perhaps the Ds was "Revolutionnary" but the car was so unreliable, those Ds pass a lot of time in garages, The 403 is one of the most reliable you can find,, some with 500 000 Km are still running like new with the base engine ! BTW I would redo this thread, It seems to become popular in like 2 days, and I didn't know that much on this car at the time ...
Don't be worry for me, the leaf suspension aren't really confortable or sporty, but they are strong ! --- Post updated --- Don't worry, I also hate most of the French cars.
True if you live in a country with lots of humidity like the UK the suspension just goes to hell really fast. Here in my country it's warm and dry though so it's not much of an issue, most of these old citroens run perfectly.
