So I took my laptop to Geek Squad because a Windows 10 update crashed my whole computer. I got it back, had to re-download and sign into a lot of things, but now I'm getting a 'Disk Read Error' when trying to update the game.

I went into the Steam Logs and this is what I found:

[2015-11-10 11:03:48] AppID 284160 update canceled : Failed to move file C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\BeamNG.drive\ui\appDefault.png (Disk read failure)

How do I fix this? Can I just delete the file or?

You can just delete the file, but it won't fix anything. I think your HDD is dying. Geek Squad will just get it working again, they don't actually fix anything.

Run CHKDSK / Windows Error Checking on the drive and see what windows turns up. You can do this by going to Computer, right click your C: drive, open properties, go to Tools, and click "Check Now" under Error Checking. Check off both boxes and start the tool - it may say that it can't check the windows install drive and schedule it for next start up.

I don't think that's the case, it's just a picture file that seems to be corrupted...

Also, this is a fairly new laptop that I got brand new in the box from Best Buy literally four months ago...

EDIT: Just completed the scan, no errors were found.

HDDs can fail at any time, new or old. But I trust chkdsk, so it seems that Steam is having trouble with updating it.

Disk permissions? Have you tried setting the access permission for the BeamNG folder to allow Steam to modify it?

if that doesn't work, uninstall and reinstall BeamNG. That will fix it for sure, but it's a little adverse if you have limited internet.

How do I set the permissions?
