    Hi guys,

I've got a problem with the game on startup.
The game worked pretty much fine until today. Now when i start up the game it gives an error saying:

Failed to nitialize Direct3D! Make sure you have directx 9 installed and are running a graphics car which supports Pixel Shader 1.1

It has run fine before and didn't update or anything. (i've activated the game on steam yesterday but has worked yesterday and today)

Is there anybody who has or had the same problem?

No idea Try running cleanup.bat in Steam>Steamapps>Common>beamng and you should find Cleanup.bat there (Bye the way this is just a guess i have no idea how to fix it sorry) And try reinstalling Directx9

    - - - Updated - - -

Plus try reinstalling beamng Afterwards if What i said didn't work

I would recommend updating your graphics drivers and re-installing DX9. If problem persists try to update BeamNG. When I installed DX9 it prompted me if I wanted to make it the default version/YES.

Thanks for your replies. I've tried reinstalling the game (on steam (will try to download it via their site again will let you know if that does anything)) and also reinstalled DirectX.
Also tried that Cleanup tool in the game folder.. so far no luck

What are your system specs?....operating system? I'm wondering why a "pixel shader 1.1" error is even showing up.

I am currently running a Dell pc with Windows 7 Ultimate, 3,20GHz i5 CPU with a Geforce GTX 260 graphics card.. it's not the newest or the best but it runs games like a champ.

Downloading the game via the site doesn't work either.. It can't update properly because it "couldn't resolve host name"..

A shame this drains the will to play the game, i love the game.. but if it doesn't work..

I'm learning issues like this require a degree of patience and persistence. My final thought on your issue is it's some sort of video driver conflict.....but I myself am still learning. Decades of console gaming
have left me horribly ignorant on one of the things I love most. Good luck and I'll be watching to see what the problem is.:D

Tried updating the hardware drives (used Geforce Experience for that) and still no luck.. I can't figure out what changed. Like i said the game worked fine before (even earlier today) The only thing i changed today was hooking up a new monitor.. Bu t Beamng was the first game i started up to try the monitor and it worked then..

    I'm running out of ideas..

    hmm.. got it working again.
I deleted the downloaded cars and maps from the folder.. could it be that a particular vehicle (ported from another game which uses directx 11 (which my pc can't handle)) was the problem? or is that just nonsense?

it wont be that the mod was ported from a DX11 game, but if it is one of the russian ones I am thinking of it may well be that it had an error with it causing the game to puke.

I have the same problem but I don`t have mods, I tried reinstalling DirectX and Beamng.Drive, still doesn`t work. It happened after a Windows 8 update.

Yup, same here. Rocking a Nvidia GTX 770 and Windows 7, but get the same error, although oddly only on the experimental version of the game. I can run the game fine if i untick the beta option in Steam. But then I don't get the new maps... :(

    Same here. GTX 970 Win 7 DX11.

This problem happened after I upgraded to my new system. The GTX 560 Ti did OK with even the experimental version. Combined with the 1440p 120htz monitor I can't get the game to run. Most probably a complete uninstall can help but, are they any registry entries, or appdata type files? Please post complete uninstall instructions.

I recently had this problem after switching monitor setups.
Here is how I fixed it:
I uninstalled through steam, then went to the steamapps/common folder and deleted the beamng folder left behind, then deleted the one that is in documents, after that I reinstalled and it works perfectly.
Hope this helps some of you

I can't run this setup because it says that a newer version is already installed which makes sense since DX11. I think it has to do with a change of monitor but I can't find the file that needs to be edited/deleted.

DX11 is not backward compatible with 9 so that doesnt make sense at all. You maintain seperate DX9, 10 and 11 installs.

I had to remove the game and install it on another drive. I had it on D: but had to install it on C: for it to work again..
