I've just been thinking that a differential damage system would be a nice addition to the game. You might for example damage driveshafts or differentials when dumping the clutch at high revs or damage the hubs when locking them during driving. What do you think about this?
i think he thinks mechanical damage i.e. pushing too much power through the diff, which would result in shattering the gears
A perfect example: D series with locked/welded front and rear differentials with 4wd engaged, turning full lock on tarmac. This creates extreme forces on the axles and binds the transfercase. We can clearly see it happeninug in game as the truck will struggle to turn without hopping about and chirping the tires, this irl would be a very bad idea and will easily break the transfer case or pop an axle. Another example is having incorrect wheel/tire sizing front vs rear and also incorrect diff ratios front vs rear in awd/4wd vehicles. --- Post updated --- Maybe the addition of transfercase damage, start with a loud wine after binding it a few times, and eventually bam you loose all drive. And for awd cars and just independent suspension in general: the addition of CV breakage, like axle breakage, but its own part.
I was thinking about a procedural system similar to gearbox damage in general. Depending on the amount of forces going through the diffs they might of course break immediately. So dumping the clutch could result in damaging the driveshaft mounts or diff internals (indicated by a whine/the dreaded popping noise) and after a couple of times they break. Sithhy™ and KezzM8 went in the exact direction I was thinking about. (I apologioze for not making my ideas clear, it was just a quick thing that popped into my head).
