Hey Devs! I will be soon repairing a soon to be broke front driver side Tie rod assembly (Inner or Outer) in my 1998 Pontiac Transport. I would love to see what happens (In-Game) what would happen if a Tie rod broke, or snapped, while driving. Up for the challenge? Is it possible in the BeamNG physics engine? Thanks! ~Geo Pictures of a Tie rod:
Yes, it's possible. I'm pretty sure this was made clear quite a long time ago that all the suspension parts are simulated and can deform/break. When the tie rod breaks the wheel is free to steer wherever the forces take it.
Okay, thanks for clearing it up. Not quite sure how one would purposely break a tie rod in the game. haha
Holy shit, I didn't know this. I started following BeamNG pretty late in the development, and now I'm even more excited. I didn't think more excitement was possible. I was always a little disappointed in RoR when I'd wreck a car and the only thing that made it less drivable was the bending of the drivetrain. What else is simulated? Can you wreck a vehicle enough to make it unable to start due to specific breakages of simulated parts?
That's planned. Currently the only drivetrain damage is that you can break halfshafts or driveshafts to cut power to wheels. Engine damage isn't properly implemented yet.
How so? Please enlighten me on how you think this, or other challenges (since this is only number 2) are "Stupid".
They're unnecessary and don't actually challenge anyone. They're pretty much just question threads and not much of a challenge. "plz crash car into tree XD dose it look lyke this?" Yes it does because that's the whole point in constructing cars this way. You are just asking if tie rod ends are simulated in this engine. Yes, they are. That's not a challenge, that's simply a question.
The challenge was to BREAK a tie rod in game and to see the results, I thought it would be awesome for the community to see the ability of the suspension characteristics. A challenge is meant for the developers to have fun, while testing the game at the same time. In no way was I meaning to suck more information, or anything of the sort. A simple, yet effective, "Challenge".
Congratulations, Lawrs, you managed to make the first challenge seem 100 times worse then what it actually was. Do you always like to over dramatize things? I'm not sure, but I do believe the first challenge was actually a good challenge, considering you open up games like GTA and others who claim to have 'Good' damage, you'd get nothing of the sorts. I also believe I constructed it better then what you have it portrayed as. When you're trying to make a point, it comes across better when you provide actual facts, not blown up ones. Thank you, for making the first challenger sound retarded, or immature.
I knew someone was gonna get offended when I saw the first post complaining. I think the first challenge was a pretty good one, but this one is just asking the devs to crash a car. There is nothing even really challenging about this one.
