This question is mainly for gabester: Will the vehicles have many parts that are detachable? I mean A LOT. It makes it feel more realistic when more parts can fall off your car. For example, the door could have 3 sub-detachable parts. One being the interior of the door, second one being the handle on the outside, and third could be some plastic trim. Same with the trunk. Also the windows could completely fall off if hit hard enough. These are just some ideas. It might be to late to ask but I thought I would. Here is a video that shows a lot of detachable parts on a car: VIDEO (Mute the audio if you don't like metal music!)
If we simulated that many separate parts you wouldn't even be able to drive one car around with a playable framerate. Bumpers, fenders, doors, hood, fascia, and trunk can all come off separately. Compromises have to be made for the sake of playability.
I had a feeling that was why. Ok then. Otherwise this game looks amazing. Anyways, how many cars do you guys have mainly finished as of now?
But it was said earlier that you could cut the truck in half, doesn't that mean all beams can tear and thus everything is detachable? Like going under a bridge and ripping the top off your van?
Ye but he's talking about having different parts or components, so that a door for example is formed from different parts, but doing something like that would take tons of resources as gabester said. And by the way I wanna see a car split in half
the thing with the tear... we have no proof at all that this is possible. gabester said once thet it could be possible but i dont think that it will be programed and integrated into the game.
Would be cool to rip engines out and such. But, hey, not everyone has a computer that can handle it...
Debris would be cool, but I am guessing that it will drop the framerate as well. Perhaps there could be an option to limit or turn off debris?
"Do all parts that can break off [like that mirror] have to be predefined? Or could you effectively cut the truck in half with enough crashing? No, the parts are not predefined, and yes, you can cut the truck in half." Straight from the FAQ. Anyway this is the reason I said that debris could mimic actual components without taking too much toll on FPS, as it is impossible to simulate every component.
This could be done with a particle system? I imagine creating various metal pieces particle and having it burst from certain beams that break. Would be cool.
He posted that before Danni posted the quote from FAQ, so I don't really see your point. Just today i was thinking if its possible to split a car in half, I had no idea, but I just assumed that if you break off the beams you can get rid of any parts, but now I want to see it
yes ive read it a couple times, but there is no proof at all that its possible. if the devs post a video or atleast a screenshot with a car broken in half then i will belive.
I was thinking about B/Ns, forgetting about the meshes....That's a good point really, I think just pure BNs (ror) can acctually be cut in half, but the meshes in BeamNG can't, but don't quote me on anything.
