CANCELED Hello Friends, I'm excited to announce that I'm hosting a competition for the most cinematic BeamNG drive video clip. It's time to showcase your skills! The prize for the winning entry will be a $100 gift card on Steam. Contest rules & terms: For this contest to take place, require a minimum of 10 participants. (So gather your friends and join in the fun!) Clips should be uploaded to YouTube. Participants are required to create and publish their submissions under this thread, including a link to their video, no later than August 20, 2023. You are allowed only one clip per submission. However, feel free to edit your post and change the video link if you wish to modify your submission. All submissions must be the poster’s own original content. The winner will be chosen based on the number of likes on their video post in this thread. (Likes from accounts created after July 1st, 2023 will not be considered in the tally. I want to ensure a fair contest for everyone involved.) The winner will be announced on August 31, 2023. If we do not receive entries from at least 10 participants by August 20, 2023, the competition will be deemed invalid. --- Post updated --- I will be the first participant of this contest and I am posting my video. (If my video happens to take first place, then the prize for this contest will go to the second place.)
It seems like you might be quite young and may not fully understand what you're writing. Remember, number of messages isn't equal to one's commitment or ability to host an event. I'm an avid fan of BeamNG, just like you. This contest is about celebrating creativity, not a popularity contest. Concerning the rules, I've put checks in place to ensure fair play (like not counting likes from new accounts). And the $100 Steam gift card? That's my way of saying thanks to this amazing community. I encourage everyone to participate and let's make this contest a fun event!
The problem is: Nobody knows you on these forums, therefore, nobody will actually think that you are going to give them the $100. Where is there proof that you will host this contest fairly and not go "well this one got the most likes, but I think this one is better" and give the "more cinematic" (in your opinion) the "$100". Your opinion is yours, and people have other opinions. If people decide to participate and you change the winner when there is a clear winner, you will get some heavy backlash. Also, who decided that you were going to host it? If the community wanted to make a full-community-ran contest, wouldn't they choose someone more popular and well known? It just doesn't make sense to me.
I'm not just a host here, but also a participant. I've shared my own video and my YouTube channel. I've also mentioned that "If my video happens to take the first place, then the prize for this contest will be awarded to the participant who comes in second". I value my reputation, and I wouldn't risk it for a mere $100. The contest is solely based on likes, not personal preference. The rules are clear: the submission with the most likes wins, ensuring the community decides the winner, not me. As for hosting, there's no need for a popularity contest. Anyone can foster community spirit by organizing fun activities like this. If you have doubts, you're welcome not to participate. And please refrain from spamming and allow interested participants to engage with the contest in a positive manner.
Unfortunate, because of negative thinking of a small group of individuals, I must declare, that the contest is cancelled.
Thanks for trying to spark some content creation within BeamNG. Sad that i didnt hear of this earlier, had some ideas in my head. Anyway, ive started participating in community run events and the fear of getting ripped off by a non personalty is legit. End of last year we for example had the modding awards, organized by Kemro, who just out of nowhere decided to vanish from the project while saying nothing to the participants. What i think is a good idea, is to get into talks with someone known and respected. Send them the price, as a kind of middleman, and this way gain trust for your competition. Or speak to leeloo, no idea on what terms BeamNG collabs with creators/communities to push a competition into the spotlight, but maybe its worth a try.
