Outdated Castaway Island

    Castaway Island

    This map is based off the real life island Qalito island in Fiji, also known as castaway island. Only they shape of the island and some major features are used in the map. This was all created using the in-game editor, using stock assets. It is the first map I have made so it is relatively small but I have tried to pack as much detail into it as possible. I mostly learned about the tools as I was making this map however I watched/read some simple tutorials about getting started with making a map.

    Information about Castaway Island:
    The island is located in the mamanuca islands in the west pacific ocean, it covers 174 Acres of land with tropical rainforests and surrounded by white beaches and coral reefs
    it is a very popular tourist area for couples and families because of the picture-perfect scenery and there is a 4 star resort on the island. It is only accessible by boat, seaplane or helicopter and getting their takes around 2 hours from the Nadi internaitonal airport (12 miles away).

    The map is now mostly finished, I have released it but I am still looking people's input on what can be fixed and what can be changed to make the map as polished as possible. It is pretty small compared to most maps but I tried to fit as much as I could into it and I may add more soon, all suggestions are welcome. I am very pleased with what the finished product looks like and for my first try it seems pretty good. Also I would like to thank Fundador for his great tutorial on making maps, it helped me a lot ( Tutorial-Making-a-terrain-for-Beam-NG-(in-depth-guide-with-pictures) ) . I hope the experience I have gained from this map will help me create much better, larger maps in the future.


    Latest update (11/08/2014 18:40)
    -Added sounds to the coast and inland.
    -Added a preview image.
    -Fixed some roads, made some less steep and smoothed out others in places.

    Previous update fixes (07/08/2014 22:40)
    -Ocean now affects vehicles.
    -Trees blocking roads have been removed/repositioned.
    -Floating trees fixed.
    -Added a small rock crawling area.
    -smoothed rough terrain and roads.
    -Tweaked One-way bridge.

    Things that need changing/ fixing - Everything that says Fixed will be in the next update.
    -3 errors when loading up the map, if anyone can help me that would be appreciated.
    -Spawn point is in a bad place, again if anyone can help me to change where the spawn point is that would be great!
    -No preview image, help needed with this. (Fixed)
    Please try out the map and let me know of any bugs you encounter, preferably with screenshots so I will know what you mean.

    This looks very nice :) Although tunnels are not possible yet in Torque 3D :(

    Tunnels are not possible in the In-Game editor...but if you want to get your hands dirty, then model your map in blender or 3DS-Max and in those programs, you can model the terrain, and include tunnels, or whatever else you want to add...if you do this, make sure you know how to set up the Collision Meshes, and try to keep all polys (in the mesh and Col-mesh) to a minimum so as to keep FPS more friendly :)

    (in addition to texture editing and road mesh etc etc etc etc...a lot goes into it...otherwise, skip the tunnel part lol)

    No problem :) And yeah, I couldn't think of anything to add onto that dead-end road so I just added that for some fun, I might end up changing it to a proper ramp or something else completely

    You need to go into the .mis file and find where your .ter file is and put it in the maps folder.


    How to fix )this is from one of my other posts on someones elses map)

    find the .ter file, it isn't in the folder, also put the right directory in the .mis file (it should be levels/Stunt Track/stuntTrack_0.ter):

    The problem is, that the map is not complete.
    If you open the .mis file you see that the .ter file should be located in art\terrains\GridMap\CastawayInsland8.ter.

    But in the terrains folder, there is no GridMap folder. Also the CastawayIsland8.ter file is not included..

    Ok, I appologise for this. I added the .ter .dds and .forest to the folder and changed the directory in the .mis file, now hopefully it should be working fully.

    Re-download the map , I just finished uploading a fix for the missing terrain, I will try to fix the other 3 errors soon, but they do not affect the map in any way. Sorry for the inconvenience

    Looks nice, I will give it a try, the road on the 4th picture must be one way! : ) Were your models done in blender?
