This idea is based off of a Viral Vehicle's video on the same topic. My pick Maserati, how do you go from making really good Italian Luxury Sports Cars To kinda generic Luxury Sedans with a door gap that can fit a tooth paste tube in
The Ghibli was probably on par with the Ferraris of that era - built like total crap. When I think about it, I wonder "who the hell would buy an Italian supercar, if the Corvette offered nearly the same performance for half the price, while having daily-drivable reliability?" Probably somebody for whom the $12k of difference was chump change.
Possibly because back then the Corvette wasn't offered anywhere else but in the USA. And never offered "nearly the same performance" of European supercars...
US buyers liked the Corvette. Imports were simply the fashionable, "different" option. Worked both ways, the C4 Corvette gained more visibility than the average (crappy) GM product ever deserved when it was officially imported in Europe, even if you could buy better cars for the same price, essentially because it was the oh-so-American "niche" product everyone was talking about.
Mitsubishi, Volvo, Lada, every french manufacturer (cars went from charming to looking like mutilated blobfishes), Chrysler/Dodge, Ford US, GM.
Basically, everyone, judging by the comments. Makes sense, in a world of massive automotive groups, cost cuttings, component sharing and widespread badge-engineering...
Japan: Toyota (Prius-era), Nissan (Sunny-era-ish?), Mitsubishi (Modern-era), Suzuki (Modern-era), and Honda (Ridgeline/CRV/Pilot-era) America: Ford (Modern-era), GM (No explanation), and Lincoln (Mark 7-era)
What has Prius done to you? It was a very innovative car, eco-friendly and good for what it's made for. (Last two Priuses look horrible, but so does Toyota's whole lineup) What do you mean by Sunny era? Nissan has manufactured a whole lot of different cars under this name. And what's bad with it?
...forgot the Prius's "horrific design" and the reputation it brought? Also, the Sunny was one of the first crap cars Nissan produced at the time. (Prius pollutes when in production more than regular Toyotas, so it's not really eco-friendly, and it's slow as ass.)
The Sunny wasn't unreliable, it wasn't uneconomic, it was just bland. A boring car isn't a bad one. It's the same situation with the Prius, it's reliable, fuel efficient, and great. You can't judge a car by how fast it is, if you judge a car by how much horsepower it has then you shouldn't be judging cars.
