Can We Do Something About These 3rd Party Mod Sites?

So I've been looking at these 3rd party mods sites (you modders know what I'm talking about) and it really irks me how the use our mods from this site and upload them to theirs. DESPITE THE GIANT RED BOLDED WORDS. It really makes me mad how they also rip the configs apart( like @NinetyNine! 's ETK , @Javielucho 's mad mod and not to mention @Djplopper 's ) and spread them out separately to avoid copyright. Bad thing is these big youtubers ( spears for example) ,that know absolutely nothing about our site and how we feel about our mods, use the stolen mods off these sites and promote the sites bringing in more people to download the stolen mods. It scares me to know if some of these sites virus load these mods.

I hope we the community can stop this mod theft.

It sure sucks, but unless they're copyrighted, I don't think we can do anything.

This discussion has been had before. There really isn't a lot that can legally be done to stop it. If it was possible to discover the identity or IP of the people stealing mods and re-uploading them, they could in theory be banned from the site, but the chance of something like that working is extremely small

 

Speirs is good now, but sometimes he downloads mods from 3rd party websites just to show how $#!t they are.

 

When i was young i was downloading mods from other sites. 2 weeks later my dad found i downloaded..... More than 100 Viruses. So i agree with you. They got viruses.

 

Those who says those websites has tons of viruses should not use a computer since they click every ads they see.
As for the rest, there is NOTHING you can do to stop them from reuploading it. Even if you threathen them with legal notices. Best thing to do is deal with it and ignore it.

These websites are also virus filled. We need to stop them!

 

They aren't virus filled unless you have viruses yourself. The ads are virus filled.

 

True, I have gotten "Ransomware" before from accidentally clicking a link.

 

Weird ever had any "virus" issues with any of those websites. Are you sure you dont click absolutely everything you see?

 

No, it wasn't on one of these websites, rather a failed attempt at me trying to download "Minecraft Shaders". These websites are similer to what I encountered though

 

I used to download mods from these types of sites back when I played RoR, some people even SOLD ripped out models from other games albiet having a good n/b, they could actually get in trouble for copyright about selling the content of others.

 

like, getting 100 pop ups with the site having 50 fake "download" button links?

Exactly. I was pretty young when that happened though, I was like 12 or 13 I think. So I didn't know any better.

 

That's why I love opera, free VPN and a good adblock built right in I've been using it now for just over 4 years without a complaint.
