Can one install own mods?

hey, I've been making a few mods recently, but I don't know what they've turned out like... Can someone tell me if I can intall my own mods?

 

Just zip them and put them in your mods folder like any other mod.

 

I do what Googlefluff said. However, my skins always start out in their appropriate vehicle folder in the vehicles folder, before they go to my mods folders.
