The default Gavril D-Series has been an iconic part of BeamNG.Drive. For most players, it was the first vehicle that they drove in BeamNG, and many (including myself) left it as their default due to its importance. In 0.14, it was removed and replaced with a blue base model D-Series. There is nothing unique about the new truck, and it leaves many, including myself, wondering why this decision was made. There is little to no benefit to this change, and all it does is destroy an important icon of BeamNG.Drive. This change needs to be undone. Removing an iconic part of the game is simply unacceptable and makes me wonder what the heck is going on that made this action a priority. The default white Gavril D-Series truck needs to return to BeamNG.Drive. Voting in the poll is appreciated, and questions, comments, feedback, etc. are all welcome in the thread.
Well, if you watch a video by WhyBeAre, he compares this default truck to other pickup options, and by using this, you could essentially go through the parts selector, remake the default truck, and set it as a config, although it can take time, it's faster than waiting for the Devs to reinsert it
The great question still remains as to why it was removed though. My issue is that this change seems completely random and pointless, by removing content, especially something so iconic.
The changes usually accompanied some change to the game. This time it seems that it was just made for consistency sake. However, the white Frankenstein D-Series has been the default for a long time and while the community has grown a lot, so it has become kinda iconic and it’s a shame to see it gone at this point.
i dont think I ever even drove the white pickup more than 2 feet before changing my default and never choosing the D15 again. happy to see it go personally lol the blue one is much more appealing. I am guessing everyone is up in arms because of a nostalgia thing...i mean, all the parts are still there, just recreate it and save it as a config if its bugging you that much
You can set your own default vehicle - just build your desired config, press Ctrl-E and select "Overwrite Default."
It’s not an issue of the truck as a vehicle, there wasn’t really anything special about it. The issue is with the truck as a symbol of the game, like the creeper in Minecraft or the Vault-Tec mascot in Fallout.
I remember the days of 0.3 and the default red D-series. Let us not be blinded by lies, brothers, the red truck is the true heir to the default throne. #BringBackTheRedTruck EDIT: nvm it was dark blue after all
I know the default white D-series may not look like anything special, also we already know we could set it up ourselves and all that, but the real issue is that it was one of the important icons of the game.
This was addressed in the OP and again by me two posts above your post. It’s not an issue of “what is the default vehicle”, that could be a potato the size of an Ibishu Pigeon for all I care. It is an issue of that truck being an image associated with the game. #IntroduceCarSizePotatoesInBeamNG
Do I really need to find and link an article about the importance of brand awareness/image relations/etc?... Just think of any popular brand’s symbol. Something that everyone thinks of when they think of that brand. Now imagine if it was changed to something functionally the same but loses a feeling that consumers accociate with the brand.
right its like, its "new" content so just enjoy the fresh "new" look...it was an update after all, I was tired of seeing that white POS every time until I changed it to the beautiful brown Legran Wagon on 14 inch steelies that I rock today lmfao
As was said before, it was simply a modified base model. It may have been switched to a blue D-Series, but it's not like the entire truck has been removed. I'm mostly neutral here. If people want it back so badly, I'm fine with that. To me it was simply a D-Series.
I already see that this is going to quickly turn into a circular argument with the same 3 or so people and not get anywhere... The change of the default truck is not new content, it doesn’t add anything. We have been able to change our default vehicle for ages now and after a user changed it there was no reason to see it ever again if you didn’t want to. This is NOT an issue of what the default vehicle is, it’s an issue of an iconic image of the game being displaced for no real reason.
