It doesn't make a "standalone" jbeam file, no. It makes huge portions of the data needed to create a jbeam though, which could save hours if you use it right. I just can't seem to find where to enter the prefix...
You have to click the 'Add' button to add a new property. Name it 'JbeamNodePrefix', and set its value to the prefix you want to use.
Crap, sorry! My screenshot is what I get when I "Add" a new property. What I didn't try was to "Edit" the new property... Thank you!
This is the most amazing thing ever! I've been looking for something like this since the game came out, now all I need to know is how to create a dummy mesh in blender for the jbeam structure.
I'm being completely honest - I know nothing about Blender. I'm a newbie to it and have minimal knowledge of what to do. I have gotten up to the point where you say to press spacebar and type "Export jbeam", and after that, I'm lost. My blender freezes up or no file is made. I've made it so the model seems to be "covered", if oyu will, with orange lines that I believe are nodes or jbeams. I do not know that for a fact, though, and need help after this step. I wanted to know if there is any way to explain this to someone like me, with no knowledge of this program whatsoever. You have done such a great job with explaining it so far, though! I really want to create my first car and I can't for the life of me get past that step. Please help whenever you can! Thanks! As a side note, I've really wanted to import a GTA IV Futo and make one, but I can never get it into the correct format to import to Blender :\
to import models from gta iv, well i personally used openIV. if you want to i could skip the problems a bit and give you the model so it can be imported straight in blender. just pm me if its what you want to do. but for the jbeam export thingy. you first need to save your project somewhere as the normal blender save (a .blend) the only thing you do is open the file tab and choose save as, then the destination where you will be saving your file is where the jbeam will be exported. now for the jbeam export part. once your model is at the point of working on the jbeams, i would strongly suggest that you only export one part at a time and also look up on the wiki to know a bit more on the way jbeams are made. to export it make sure you previously saved it and then continue. select the part that you want to export the jbeam by right clicking it and pressing space, then you simply write export jbeam and you should see that it pups up. then you go where you saved your model and find the jbeam, you open it with a program such as notepad++. and you do the rest. i cant really explain how to make a whole vehicle because i have not done it ether and im not 100% sure for the rest myself.

How do you know what is a node and what is a beam in the scripting? .-. because i am confused where to put what.
I followed the instructions and it is installed, but the export button isn't showing up. (File > Export) --- Post updated --- I re-did everything many times and am very confused as to why this is not working. --- Post updated --- Problem has been fixed: I press spacebar and find the export to jbeam option and click it
i go to install it and it just reterns to the add on page what am i suposed to do (ive used blender for about 3 hours in my life)
I'd try to forget doing advanced stuff, and learn the basics of Blender first. To download the script from the first post: To install, read the instructions right below. NOTE this thing is from 2014, so keep in mind it could not work as expected.
