I've recently gotten into baking materials in blender, but to be honest I just blunder my way through. Currently I'm trying to bake diffuse maps for the colour map, but with metallic values it comes out darker until it just bakes it as black.

I can turn the metallic values off for this step of the bake, but is that the right thing to do?

I know this seems more like only a blender question, but blender has a diffuse bake option, but not a colour specific option

I saw a suggestion on reddit to use glossy, but it also seems to be tied to metallic values too, but just the inverse.

over night I've looked at some materials, normally old cars, and their main colour maps seem to have shadows on them, like the autobello

but a new car like the bastion is just seemingly monochromatic (just the pure colour, and no extra information)

maybe the autobello doesn't have shadow like a diffuse map, but instead that's dirt/grime? I'm really out of my depth here
