Hello for a while now ive been thinking about a way to literally tear cars in half and maybe some type of liquid like brake fluid or oil to spew out of the car with the thing like ripping cars in half i mean instead of the cars being stretched as far as you want it to go at some point the car can split into two separate halves. The reason i thought of this is because when i first started seeing this game on youtube videos i wondered why cant there be holes in the hood or door or something. When your on a map where you fall off of a cliff and land into spikes your car can literally fall into the spikes and look somewhat normal and by normal i mean normal in a situation like that but if you were to press f7 or f8 and move your car onto a normal flat surface it would look stretched in the are that the spikes came into i was wondering if there could actually be holes in those areas where you could see all the way into the car and maybe a type of fluid could drip or even spray. Another suggestion that i have is using the gasoline aspect a little but more im thinking about this when the career mode actually comes into play where people would have to pay for gas for a long ride to maybe transport some logs or something. Not really how the game is meant to work. The various nodes that make up a vehicle can only deform, not break apart. Breakgroups really only end up being used for things like doors or mirrors. This idea has been suggested many times before.
What do you think is getting in the way with tearing a vehicle apart? Also, it would be nice to have more things like paint chips and scratches on the car in accidents. At the moment the scrapes might be impossible, but maybe down the road? :3
Down the road this would be a great thing to try. Isn't there preexisting software for car crash simulation that's used for safety purposes that would have these, or some of these features?
Some vehicles become unstable when the undersides are damaged (or torn apart) due to their high rigidity iirc.
Most of the reason that the vehicles are set up to not tear apart (other then what Dummiesman said) is because when the vehicles beams break and the vehicle separates, the mesh is unaffected and still attempts to follow the nodes it was supposed to be deforming to... and it will keep deforming no matter how messed up the nodes get... this causes the body to become one huge piece of ugly spaghetti that just looks terrible. Now wether this has been fixed or not I do not know, but I am pretty sure thats why the cars used to be set up to stretch rather then tear.

You can kind of spilt cars in half but it still acts as one car. The gavril Barstow isn't too hard to split into 2 pieces.
@agent 47 this is a soft-body game, not the game to allow parts to fly around, this was started on cryengine 3, not the most realistic of things. the idea behind j-beam and n/b structures is to allow the vehicle (or object) to deform as realistically, and efficiently as possible, a new system to allow total deformation, and to allow beams to tear cleanly would be far more expensive, hard to find, CPU intensive, hard to modify, and harder to use for the slower impacts, the bumper wouldn't necessarily dent, it would split in two, or deform much more like a 50 mph crash, then a 10, it would crush inward
