beamng pre race update confusion. Help?

I know that the new beamng came out recently, 0.3.1 pre race update and i am now trying to update. I updated using the file in beamng users folder but it said unable to download version.txt . I read a thread that said i had to get the new updator so i did and it seems like it is completely reinstalling beamng as it says beamng 0.3.1 setup.exe. I am very confused, is it a new version or is it installing a new version that i dont yet have. If it helps I think that the ibishu pigeon was released but I dont have it. Help

 

You cant update the old version to the new version easily no, the installer will be installing version 0.3.1 from scratch.
